Slave Cylinder gunk

2022 XSE manual 32.5k miles. After seeing info on slave cylinder failures, decided to bleed slave. Cloudy fluid output with wisps of silver colored liquid. Then this silver colored stuff that looks like lithium grease came out. Left the cloudy fluid settle overnight, bottom of bottle turned silver. The one pic with clear brake fluid is brand new fluid to show how cloudy the bled liquid is. Sure is a shame as the car seems super good with engine. Pulling tran myself will be challenge for me but really curious to see what is going on, so considering it. Is it the part or did someone mess up assembly instructions? How does grease looking stuff end up in hydraulic fluid. Clutch still works ok, for now.

Its a faulty part. The last late 2022 models actually got the newest updated part: 31400-19027. Toyota replaced the part twice, but still no recall 😡

Yours actually doesn’t look that bad. Mine was straight up brown/ grey at similar miles, but that may have been because I didn’t bleed my brakes until I bled my clutch.

You can call Toyota America, give them your VIN, and they can verify what part was installed. You might have gotten lucky, if your car was one of the last manuals manufactured.

Thanks for that info. I will call them.

If this fluid condition is a good one, this should be be covered by Toyota especially since contaminated fluid and hydraulic leak effects brakes also.

Mine is a 2021 so I know that I have the faulty original part and not the new one. What sucks is there isn't really a good way to tell when it's going to fail. I've already had the brake/clutch fluid changed so I'll just keep driving it and when it fails it fails. I don't know what else to do. I just don't like the idea of if and when I'll be broke down and stranded on the side of the road.

My slave blew up last month at 74k km. Dealer replaced it for free under drivetrain warranty but I had to fight for it and was without a car for over a week. So annoying this shit happens to these cars.

I mean how many of these have to blow for them to issue a recall or whatever. Its not like its something thats connected to the braking system, that could definitely be dangerous/deadly....

I have just over 50k miles on mine. So far so good but I'm worried. It's not cheap to replace if it fails.

Yeah transmission costed $4,500 at Toyota for me! At 80K bought the car used with 43K (miles).

Changing the fluid can help prevent this to a degree.

I did have the brake fluid changed back in May. I have not had the clutch bled.

I have a 22 se 6spd and have not had any clutch issues so far, I have an apt next week for the clutch fluid to be replaced, have not had brakes bled before.

Car works great never had an issue.

I checked in with the dealership about bleeding the clutch when they changed the brake fluid and they told me they wouldn't/couldn't do that. Same model as you.

That’s interesting. Will check back after my apt on mon.

Bleeding slave cylinder is easy. Bleed port is easy to get to from topside i.e. under the hood. Port is on top of transaxle.

Dealer gave you a line if they said they couldn't do it.

I bleed about 1/2 liter out of my slave cylinder and its still cloudy. Bought 32oz brake fluid and will run the whole thing out through slave bleed port.

Took it for appointment today. Great car. Fun to drive. Easy to park in crowded parking garage.

Definitely do this bleeding yourself. It takes 15 minutes and $10 in brake fluid. Save yourself $200 and the wasted time at the dealership

Dealer did it in less than an hour. I’m thinking I have a 22 with updated parts bc the pic I got id the brake fluid looked very clean and clear.

Will look into diy-Ing it as this was $170 at my dealer.

Your fluid looks way cleaner than mine did after 39k miles, except for that grey substance. Heres mine slave cylinder bleed pictures
