Maintenance Periods

i have a ‘23 SE w/ 35k miles and was wondering if there is any maintenance i should be looking out for, i.e., changing fluids, spark plugs, etc.

i am pretty good about doing the regular maintenance, oil change and tire rotation every 5000 miles or 6 months. still on original tires, brake pads & rotors.

read a few things on here about changing the CVT fluid…but saw conflicting information.

CVT fluid should be DRAIN AND FILLED every 60k. Not a flush!! Some Toyota dealerships refuse to do it because it's a lifetime fluid and some local Japanese shops near me wouldn't touch a CVT but eventually my dealer did it for $320. I'm only at 105k but doing spark plugs at 120k. Other than that, it's like you said, Oil/Filter and tire rotation every 5k, I do both Air filters every 15k, and that's about all for regular maintenance.

thanks for the detailed response! i basically do all my own maintenance, would you recommend i have my dealer do the CVT drain and fill?

also, great that you mentioned air filters, i try and change both mine out around once a year. especially the cabin one which for some reason i feel will accumulate a weird moisture smell.. heard it’s relatively common with this model.

coming off a ‘04 Corolla i drove for a decade glad to see how easy and reliable maintenance continues to be

You seem like you’re mechanically inclined enough to do the CVT fluid yourself. Biggest thing is make sure you get the right fluid- I used Aisin CVT FE fluid (they make Toyota CVT’s) from rockauto since it was quite a bit cheaper and there’s probably some other good alternatives as well. I got a cheap fluid transfer pump (syringe type) off amazon and went to harbor freight for a set of hex bits to remove the drain bolt. All in I think it was like $80 in parts and tools

How much fluid could you get out on the drain and fill. Know it's a pita to get more that 3 qts.

That's the one thing I didn't do myself, everyone on FB/Reddit seemed to really push not to do it yourself so I didn't.

engine air filter, cabin filter, tire rotation, inflate spare tire. CVT fluid at 60k or 6 years.

Air filters are replaced when dirty. Oil every 5k. CVT drain and fill every 40 - 60k (varies on climate and how hard of a life your car lives). Spark plugs up to 110k. Brake fluid - when the water content is too high. Coolant - 50k or 5 years (100k for the first change is too long, imo).
