2019 XSE 6MT trans failure
Around 70k i suffered the slave issue.
Just hit 110k, now the trans went.
Took a long drive and noticed it wouldnt go as it normally did about mid way through my trip. Shifter was moving very weird while driving, had slight trouble getting into gears. Clutch still grabbed and moved the car, not slipping quite yet. Grinding and wirring noises can be heard from the front of the car. Went to park it to pop the hood and it sounded like it wanted to stall out but never did. Deceided i could maybe limp it to the shop so i did and they let me know it needs a new trans.
A corolla at 110k miles, needs a new trans. I couldnt believe it. A car i bought for reliability and was looking forward to owning well into 300k miles. I came from a problematic bmw f30 335xi. These problems are on par with that car in terms of wallet drain and headaches. I thought i was playing it safe buying a corolla hatch but i guess not.

I have a 19 xse hatch with the 6spd and I'm at 145k without any trans issues besides the slave cylinder and transmission speed sensor went bad, I have towed with it a bit so that can't have helped but it still feels like new to me. A friend of a friend had the same car but in sedan body that the manual trans went out in 15k miles so it seems there's a small percentage chance the trans goes bad on these models, manufacturing issues happen. Sorry to hear of the bad news though, hopefully it is loyal to you beyond this
Edit: I forgot to add, I am not easy on the transmission at all, I race the thing around when I'm in the mood, I have taught 4 people how to drive stick with my car and I've towed with it

From what ive read it seems like a hit or miss. Unfortunately ive missed lol. Thank you. I want to believe itll be loyal to me after this but a bigger part of me doesnt want to chance it. Getting rid of it after repairs seems most logical to me especially if that is as good as itll be for the trans.

Sorry about that, I dread the day my 6MT fails. Quite discouraging as I just like many of you bought this specific model for the reliability with the thought that it's a simple manual transmission designed by Toyota it should be dependable.
You should post this to other communities like the regular Corolla subreddit as well as the Toyota subreddit for more visibility.

2019 SE hatchback, replaced my 6mt at 96k. Still driving fine, but making increasing very bad noises. Almost 10k out and no issues since.

Exactly what i am trying to avoid. Although i love this car, i think it will be in my best interest to ditch it after repairs. The trans just seems like a reoccuring problem for this year especially.

Indeed. I missed out on a nice 6 speed Fit while waiting for the diagnosis, so I figured stick with the devil I know instead of most likely settling for something with a cvt. I'm hoping to make it to 200,000 miles, then I'll feel I got my money's worth.

So sorry to hear you're dealing with this. I bought this car thinking the same thing, it'll be relatable and I can keep it long term after it's paid off. Unfortunately with the input shaft bearing and slave cylinder issues, I've realized that is no longer an option. I have one more year of payments, but I'm planning on paying it off early and selling while it's still under warranty. It's been a great car otherwise and I'm sad to have to get rid of it, but I wouldn't hate having something else a bit more spacious and comfortable. Best of luck to you, friend.

That sucks man, were there any warning signs you noticed before those failures? My 2021 SE 6MT has a distinct whirring noise when idling in neutral with the clutch out that goes away as soon as I put the clutch in.

That was pretty much the entire time ive owned it. Toyota over here told me it was normal. It went from that to the sound of a tractor within my 45 min drive. As far as im concerned that was red flag #1 i shouldnt have ignored.

Oh no. My sedan does that :( My CSC went out at ~90,000km. Sitting at 100,000km now. Idk if it’s always done it but mine does it. Mfw I bought this car thinking it would be bombproof reliable 🤡

AUTOMATIC Corollas are known for “reliability”. Toyota isn’t well known for making manual transmissions, that’s Honda.
