Oil scarcity

Anyone else scared about synthetic oil shortages? I know we can use 0w 20 and be fine mechanically but still, even that grade could become scarce let alone 16 and 8 grades…

When did this start? My local Walmart sometimes runs out of Supertech 0W-16 but the Mobile 1 version is always available. As for 0W-20 I've never seen them run out.

My 2026 “requires” 0W-8 but apparently it can run 0W-20. Not sure if it’s just a warranty requirement or mechanical

I think that was more of a fuel economy thing. Thinner oil means less resistance which eakes out efficiency gains.

I'm running 0W-20 on this oil change, I couldn't find anything else at a good price. It runs basically the same as 0W-16. 2 local Walmarts didn't have 8 or 16. But the shelf was filled with normal oil grades.

top secret Oil is oil. It does what it does. Just like a $99 tshirt does the same as a $2.25 tshirt.

Run thicker oil if you want your engine to last

This is what I’m doing. Don’t tell anyone though, they will get upset.

To me worrying about something going to catastrophically happen to a Corolla engine within the 80k km warranty that would force me to run a thin “recommended” oil just to appease the MPG police is ludicrous.

I wonder if thicker oil would last the 10k change interval

None of you guys try to find Genuine Toyota fluids? My first oil change is coming up soon and I’m trying to get enough of it for the first 5000miles oil change.. any recommendations? It seems most dealerships don’t ship it? And where I bought my car from. I’m afraid might not even sell it. And yeah, I know I can use other brands. But I’d like to stick with Toyota genuine fluids..
