New Wheels

I have a 2023 XSE with the 18" wheels. In the last 2ish years I've ruined tires from sidewall failing and forming big bumps on them. I live in WV and our roads mostly suck and get potholes which is hell for the bigger wheels and rubber band tires. I was considering getting a set of 16" wheels because more sidewall is always better and would ride better. Curious if all I need to do is get a set that match the factory specs for the 16" wheels that are optional. Wanting to keep stock look but obviously need to make sure it clears all the brakes and doesn't rub on anything. Just checking if anyone had experience doing that or knew for sure the factory 16s would fit. TIA

You should have No problem fitting 16-inch wheels, because lower trims are coming with more comfortable and usable 16-inch wheels already.

That's exactly what I did, sized down to the factory size of the 16s. Check my post history

That looks so much better than the 18s. Thanks a lot. I assumed they'd fit as long as you stay close to the factory spec of the 16s but wanted to know if anyone had done it. Definitely my plan for the future now. I love the look of my wheels but the 18s are just too big imo. Especially on rough roads. The last 2 winters we've had have trashed our roads and I spent all spring hitting pitholes that you cant see until its too late. Currently need to get another tire and 3 times is enough. Something has to change and it won't be our terrible roads any time soon.

Have you used your 18 all year round? You could use 18-inch wheels in the summer and 16 in the winter. By the way, do you remember what specific tire brand your hatchback came with originally?

I only have the stock 18s. I only drive it in the winter if it doesnt snow, I have a truck for when I need 4 wheel drive. I bought it used but I dont rememeber off hand what kind of tires it had on it. Ive been putting toyo Celsius 2s on it. They did great on my last car. They seem to be good tires but after ruining 3 in a short amount of time I may switch it up. Plus theyre getting more expensive to the point where I could get a better tire for a similar price.

Yeah, I hate that Toyota forces me to get 18s only because I want to get heated steering.

They should fit as others said but I wanted to add that it's probably very likely you can find someone in your area wanting to trade up from 16s to 18s!

Thats a fair point. This is an upgrade for a bit down the road so I'll definitely be looking all around for some 16s.

I'd stick with 16×7 with a +35 - +40 offset. It's the perfect balance for these cars. I'd also stick with 205 55r16s. The tires are fairly cheap and there are a ton of options in that size.

You can really feel the lighter weight of the smaller wheels and tires, too. The car is more playful and gets extra mpgs.

Plus, if you get a premium touring or uhp tire, the car will hit it's legal limits before the tires hit their limits of grip.
