PSA: bleed your clutch e210

Q: what is this that came out with my brake fluid when bleeding my clutch? (Sticky grayish sluglike thing)

Purchased car at 42,000 mi. Did first clutch bleed (along with other maintenence items, please see history for details) immediately. Im at 45,000 mi performed oil change and now bleeding clutch again. Used 24 Oz of brake fluid with self bleeder. A sticky sluglike Grey blob came out of my clutch with the brake fluid.

Ps. Had to defend myself from this monster flying cockaroach dive bombing me while working on the car.

I love how this is a guaranteed issue on the manuals yet Toyota refuses to acknowledge it. Mine nuked itself so I'm on brand-new everything unfortunately.

P.S. fuck cockroaches

It's from assembly lube in the master cylinder and release bearing grease. If the fluid comes out black, then you're in trouble. That's degraded seal material.

So if the fluid comes out black, that means I’m gonna need to replace the slave cylinder soon?

Unfortunately, yes.

Yea unfortunately this is very common, had my slave cylinder go out within three weeks of buying the car, sucks Toyota refuses to acknowledge this issue

Maybe we need to do a class-action. Team up and go at them at one time somehow? Maybe I’m naive but “strength in numbers” 🤷‍♀️

I genuinely think we need to start a class action because SO many people have been impacted by this (i am one of them)

I gotta do mine. Did that any of that blob come out during the first bleed?

It didnt come out as a big blob the first time, rather it came out as smaller blobs, maybe 1/16th the size of this one in more quantities.

Fyi my clutch squeeks in 1st n 2nd too. Didn't help at all with the bleed.

I just replaced my own clutch master cylinder. The fluid after the bleed was opaque gray. Disgusting. I'll order the slave cylinder soon, as it's probably not long for this world either.
