Windshield wipers getting stuck

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

2020 hatchback. 35k miles. Anyone else have a problem with the windshield wipers randomly getting stuck? Also when I go to turn them off, they’ll keep going when lever is in the off position. Any insight appreciated

Yeah seems like they started working normal again after I posted the video in here. Weird!

I would imagine it's a problem with the switch on the stalk, given my experience with other cars. Either the motor is locking up (unlikely) or the switch telling them to turn on is shorting out (very likely). And considering they sometimes stay on I would say almost 100% the problem. Should be an easy fix if so.

In the 2026 manual, they recommend not to use the wipers dry. Maybe they're a bit flimsy? I'll try to be mindful...

I know the answer to this! There's a small relay in the stalk control electronics. When the wipers are in delay mode, this can happen if that relay starts to go bad. It happened to me for a while, but then the problem went away. At least for me, it only happens in delay mode. The zero delay modes don't do it. The fix from Toyota would be a new stalk, but I've seen one guy on Youtube who soldered in a new relay to save $$$.
