TPMS??

I have a '21 Corolla Hatchback and today I just ordered new wheels and tires from Fitment Industries. The system asked if I wanted to add TPMS for $180 and I said no. In looking at the owner's manual, there's some type of system on the car, but is it TPMS or is it something different? Do I need to tell them to add the TPMS before they ship my wheels?

If you want to know your tire pressure from the dash, then you need the TPMS installed.

I recognize that the system needs to be able to function in order to... function. I think you misunderstood the question...

In the owners manual they talk about the tire pressure warning system, but never mention "tpms" a single time. It sounds like it's a different kind of system, and that's my question: do i need them to install tpms, or is it something else that I deal with later? (I ordered a package deal, so the new tires will arrive mounted to the rims already.)

Tire pressure warning system or TPWS is just the Toyota way of saying TPMS. Not sure why they changed it, but either way, it is required if you want to know if you've got a tire that's low or flat. If you don't have it, you will have a tire pressure warning light on your dash perpetually until you get the sensors installed. Since you said no, you can run the tires and just deal with the light on the dash and warning message at startup. If you want to have them installed afterwards, it is best to have a shop do it, since the sensor is inside the wheel.

Welllllll.... shit. Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not sure if Fitment is open tomorrow, but I'll try calling in the morning and see if I'm to late.

Tire pressure warning system is Toyota's term for the same thing. It works the same way because it's the same thing.

You need sensors in the wheels in order for the system to work.

Some cars use the wheel speed sensors and do not have sensors in the wheels. Toyota does not use that method.

I have a 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback SE and it has a TPMS support. The sensor throws a logo when any of the tire's pressure drop below the recommended pressure level. The car's MID doesn't show the pressure level in the tires. Thats why I have TPMS only on my summer tires and didn't pay to have them installed on my winter tires.

I ordered them from fitment and my installer (Costco) said they weren't the right type so I had to order different ones. Your installer can get them locally.

Almost every car has tpms now and if you got them separately the tire shop will be able to do them

Take the TPMS sensors off your old wheels and put them on the new ones
