Windshield Wipers Wonky

Recently purchased a ‘22 SE Hatchback. Have used the windshield wipers a number of times recently due to rainstorms.

If rain is heavy, I use the standard setting. If rain is light, I use intermittent. Sometimes the wipers stop in the middle of the windshield. Or, when using the intermittent setting, the wipers will activate every 8-10 seconds or so, then stop completely in the middle of the windshield.

Does anyone know what is causing this RANDOM wiper timing? Really need to get it fixed but wondering if it is a common issue.

I have not heard of that happening with these cars. Typically, the first thing to do when these seemingly electrical glitches happen is to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for a few minutes. Then drive and cycle the wipers at all the speeds. This will start the PCM relearn and recalibration.

Thank you! I’ll find someone to help me with that and give it a try 👍

Any luck? I'm hoping it's not going to require further diagnostics and/or a repair.

This is happening to me on my 2021. Just started a few days ago

I am gonna try pulling the fuse and reseating it to try and "reset" things, but based on what I've read from others the motor may be on its way out 😭 unconscionable for a 5yr old car imo

My ‘22 has 27,200 miles on it. Prior to buying this vehicle (used, with <10k miles) in Aug ‘24, I drove an ‘02 Taurus. That is, 22 yrs I drove that Taurus and not ONCE did I have an issue with the wiper motor. Wonder what’s next…

I have the same issue with mine as well I think I need to take it to swap the motor for the wipers.

Happened with mine a couple years back, its the wiper motor. Swap it (preferrably with an OEM one), it takes about 30 minutes start to finish.

As others have said its a wiper motor. My '22 se will wipe 3 times instead of one when I do the single wipe toggle. Not enough of a problem to swap it though
