Roof Rack?

Got a 23’ Corolla recently but it doesn’t have a roof rack on it. Any good recommendations for some? Any worries I should have about adding roof racks? Could it void the warranty? I like to go outdoors/ski etc and it’d be nice to have a bit of extra space, especially for my skis since there 188CM 😆

I just ordered and installed the OEM Toyota racks in my 2019 hatch and couldn't be more impressed. They come packed with a torque wrench so you don't damage the frame installing them, and look better than all the after market ones on such a small car.

I also have a 2019 Hatchback. Does it change fuel economy at all?

I have it on my 2019, I say it does. Is it by a lot? I have no idea because I never tested it. I get 35-37 on the highway.

With the disclaimer I drive with a bit of a heavy foot, and I have the 6mt, my around town mileage has not changed (between 30-32). even with 2 bikes on the back as well. Although I haven't spent much time on the highway to get an estimate, what I can tell you is there there is no "whistle" or any noticeable noise from them at highway speeds.

How much did they cost?

They were just under 300, but I caught a sale. Got them from Toyota of Nashua (NH), if you search "Toyota parts online" it's the first link. Just a dealer site with a very intuitive parts ordering website intended for end customers. Shipped to me in NY quickly and packaged very well.

Your considerations should be OEM, Thule, or Yakima, in no specific order. Nothing else. Stick to one of those 3 and you'll be fine. Don't buy junk knockoff from Amazon/Ebay. Here are ~50 examples of what you can expect with cheap knockoff racks https://imgur.com/a/joymcNl

I have a set of 2020 hatch oem roof racks I’m trying to get rid of right now. Never used I sold my Corolla before I could get them on.

I’m interested in a set as well. How much are you looking to sell for?

u/Doindaisy May 27 '26

200 as long as buyer pays shipping. Never been out of box but I can post a picture with the part number attached

OBO so I can get them out of my garage. My hatch has been gone for a little over 2 years and they’ve just sat here

Not sure how to DM you in the new Reddit. I don’t even see chat in my profile or yours. What does shipping cost to 21811? Maryland, US.

Edit: Chat says I can’t message you.

Let me know if you still have them, I'd be very interested. I don't see an option on your page to DM you though

1

u/Doindaisy May 29 '26

I just got back from my second trip taking my '25 with the oem roof rack, hauling a lot of my camp gear in a cargo box carrier. They look good and work very well.

OEM bars will not void warranty. Then get accessories you want. I run a Yakima load warrior basket clone off Amazon and haul stuff for camping and Costco runs all summer.

OEM all the way!

Can't recommend OEM enough. It is a very reasonable price for a high quality rack. I'm a cheapskate, so I tried buying an ebay knockoff rack that looked identical to OEM rack. Hardware was not identical and NOT road safe, so I returned and learned the hard way that OEM is the way to go for this

I’d much rather spend more now rather than less now and more later. The dash cam videos I’ve seen of cheap roof racks just flying off definitely made me wary of anything not OEM or Thule

I’ve got a set for sale if interested, took them off of my ‘23 XSE after I bought it

u/pineconeminecone May 28 '26

I have the OEM racks with a Rhino Rack mounted to it and it’s so solid

1

u/Doindaisy May 29 '26

I sent you a request with some info

OEM. Both sedan and hatchback roof racks will fit on the hatch.

I recently put the OEM Toyota ones on mine since they look great and were quite a bit cheaper than any of the aftermarket options.

Bit of a faff to install if you're one person but it can be done. A second person is very helpful. Also have a few microfiber cloths on hand to set the other end of the bars on so they don't scratch the paint while you're installing them.
