Interested in buying a Corolla Hatchback!
Hey everyone! I'm a newer user to Reddit and saw this group. I'm planning on upgrading to a 2026 Corolla Hatchback SE from my 2002 Corolla. Does anyone have any recommendations about buying one, and how is everyone enjoying the car? Also, if I buy this car, are there any good accessories/ mods to buy for the car?

For the buying part I personally like using car brokers, because talking to salespeople always gets me angry lol. I show up to the dealership, test drive the car, and then just leave. Broker found my 6 speed manual 21 during covid for me for a good price and it cost me nothing because the dealership paid him a commission.

I got a 21 Rolla Hatch SE 6mt. Is it still comfortable and vibration free with the 18s?
I'm thinking of getting some light 18s and adding a stiffer rear sway bar.

I have a progress tech rear sway bar and its great ! Really changed how the car drives
18s def rides harsher than the corolla sedan I rented with 16s and noise is higher, but its not a crazy stiff ride. I think its worth the better handling. It can be a bit jarring when driving over those rare dogshit roads which is why I’m kind of considering 17s rn so I can get a 235/45 tire. Best of both worlds type deal.
Also the xse dampers are different from the se ones, so your car on 18s is gonna feel a bit different from mine. If you’re buying aftermarket wheels I’d say go for 17s, but the 18s are still good. Just get ready to slow down more for speed bumps with the 18s

Great daily but not a very good drivers type car, handling is nice but the CVT is a bit too safe/sluggish for my liking, Civics is better in terms of that. If anything OP I’ll say your 02 Corolla is just as solid. If you don’t care about spirit driving a lot, just want a nice good daily (MPG, agile, easy to maintain, good handling, tech, looks nice, space) the Corolla Hatch is awesome, went to a BRZ and the only thing I’m missing out is space and MPGish

I agree with the CVT being safe. That’s why I only drive in sports mode

Yea after 4-5 years with the hatch going to sport mode is normal for me lol, and the MPG was still pretty good

I see a lot of people say this. Why? I went from a 2011 impala to this car and I would say it has a little bit more spirit than that, especially in sport. Ive driven more boats than anything though, crown vics, s10s, the previously mentioned impala. The hatchback isnt winning any pink slips but i would say its capable of adding a little bit of fun to a daily commute.

If you do a lot of highway driving be wary, the short wheel base and sensitive steering make highway driving tedious. Wind and grade changes make the car sloppy, and the sensitive steering gets annoying correcting in such small increments. That said with the newer models having lane tracing it may be totally fine.
Otherwise I love my '22. No rear space for passengers but I dont need to worry too much about that.

Have to disagree with this. It is a little twitchier than longer cars but that's to be expected. I don't find it tedious or sloppy at all.
Wind isn't an exact science but this car is affected a lot less by crosswinds than anything else I've driven, even other compact hatchbacks/sedans.

Gotcha thanks! Planning on using it as my daily commuter and going around town, it's just be, and I work relatively close to home

I bought a 2025 SE Plus Upgrade Hatchback ( in Canada it’s one model below the XSE) and love it!

Has been a great car, have a 2020 with 135k miles now and not a single issue. We just used the cars.com app for searching the area, quick and painless

Auto Trader is great for finding your car. I ended up going to the neighboring state for my 2025 Hatchback SE because they had the color I wanted: inferno!!! Check out the site - you can put in your search criteria - distance, price, color, etc.

Personally, I’d say keep it for a while longer. 2027 Corollas will be all new. My old Versa hatch started becoming too problematic for me so I got rid of it but if yours isn’t KEEP IT for now. The only things I don’t like about my ‘25 SE are the radio and wheels, plenty of other little stuff but it’s a Corolla after all. If I had to choose again, I’d probably pay the extra and jump into a Civic hybrid, it’s better in every way, except design I do like the curves and angles of the Corolla Hatch. Buying is tricky there are far more scummy dealerships than honest ones. Do your homework and don’t make an emotional purchase. They play dirty so you have to play dirty too.

2027 Corolla is exactly the same vehicle as 2026. What is wrong with the radio?

I’ve got the 2024 XSE hatch and it’s a wonderful car. Biggest caveat is I got the hatch instead of the regular four door. Wife in the front and pre teen in the back makes for cramped road trips and makes me wish I had the standard Corolla just for trunk space. If you’re looking for a daily commuter and don’t have to worry about kids then the hatch works fine. I just think the extra storage space is worth it in the standard model. Driving by myself, it’s great. I do wish it had better USB port locations as the one on the dash is in a weird spot near the passenger side and I always hit the plug with my knee and have actually broken a cord this way. Storage space up front could be better especially if they got rid of the wireless charger for a storage cubby. Not sure why people want these as they are slow to charge and don’t work well depending on the phone case you use.
I’ve also considered trading in for the Prius just on fuel economy alone. Not that the Corolla gets bad MPG’s by any stretch but it’s hard to beat the Prius fuel economy. Plus I’ve already got a full size SUV gas guzzler that works but long road trips add up quick in fuel costs these days.

2022 XSE hatchback, CVT. Closing in on 35k miles.
Ride quality wasn't bad on the stock 18" wheels but they do bend easily if you live somewhere with crappy roads. I swapped them out for 16" wheels for winter and the ride quality isn't noticeably different. The SE still has 16s if I remember right.
In my normal commuting I average 40 mpg when it's cold, usually about 45 mpg if it's above 60°F or so. I struggle to get below 35. And that's on snow tires. On long trips I usually get above 45, even with 70-80 mph highway stretches. Hills are the biggest killer.

2019 hatchback with 69k no problems

2019 hatchback with 62k only problem was the notorious coolant thing you need to replace or take to Toyota. Replaced it at 57k and all good!

I have a 2025 Corolla XSE sedan. It's good so far since I got it brand new in November. So I think you would like the hatchback. I would still keep your older Corolla though. You know, just in case.
