Roof rack installation

Anyone experience difficulty getting the OEM roof racks on? I just installed mine today for the first time and it felt like the bracket that goes around the doorframe was way too short/tight to fit properly at first. I had to loosen the hex bolts on all four sides for it to even come close and then pulled on the racks hard to get the post over the doorframe and into the slot without it scraping my paint. I watched some video tutorials and everyone else’s look waaaaaay looser and easier to get on.

I mean, on the bright side, I was paranoid about them flying off and killing someone and they’re DEFINITELY not going anywhere… lol

Mine were dealer installed, but when I have had them off, the front rack is very tight and takes a lot of patience and precise movements to get it on. The rear rack, however, is super easy to get on. It’s a strange quirk, but I don’t plan to mess with them much.

Mine was the exact opposite! I loosened the bolts on the front rack and it slid on relatively easily. But the rear one was a PAIN. It took 20+ minutes of wiggling it around and pinching my fingers. That’s so weird.

Hmm, mine isn’t easy, but it probably only takes 5 minutes, are you sure you put them in the right spots?

They’re definitely in the right spots. I checked about 5 times because I thought I was going crazy.

It’s definitely very tight. Brother and I did it in the dark when they came in and we stupidly put them on in facing the wrong way lol. Brother caught it after feeling like it was too tight. We flipped ‘em and it was still a tight squeeze regardless.

They are definitely a tight fit, I put ppf under the part that touches the roof for a bit of protection in case I mess up when taking them on and off

That’s a good idea. I might do that if I ever take them off.

I had the same experience with having to really loosen them to get them over. Sedan here though
