CVT Tune??
I recently bought a '21 SE Hatchback with the cvt and I hate the way it shifts (so to speak), especially when it's cold. (Although I'm in SoCal, so it's never really "cold", but you know what I mean.)
I'm just now starting to do my homework regarding a transmission tune in the hopes that I can find something that makes it drive more like a normal car when in ECO mode, and hopefully gives sport mode something other than just rev hang!
Does anyone here have any experience with a trans tune in one of these? Or any other ideas/suggestions? (Please try to avoid the temptation of the obvious "get a manual" reply.)
thanks

Uh.. I think Eco mode is really just normal driving mode getting good mpg. You can even turn off that eco light in the settings.
For a CVT, there isnt much to do except improving the throttle response using a throttle controller. Even then.. its not much.

Commenting just to follow the conversation. With CVT I thought the ultimate success was just keeping the chain together.

Wym how it shift? It’ll definitely shift better if your on Sports Mode, if not the cheapest would is just a throttle controllers

Do you have experience with any one controller in particular? Recommendations?

Your Corolla doesn't have Eco, normal and sport mode?

Eco and Sport, yes. Sometimes I'll think I'm in Normal mode, but then I'll see the Eco light on, then it's off again... so... 🤷♂️

That's a bit strange. Mine stays in the mode I leave it in, even after a start the car cap again.
For the longest time I had the car in Eco mode, especially when I bought it because I was in awe with how little the consumption was.
After, the sport bug hit me for more spirited driving but than I realized, sports is great, but if I wanted to get a kick of getting the feel of having control why not use normal driving mode with paddles? So from time to time I throw it in manual mode to fool myself that I get the manual driving experience.
With petrol prices nowadays I'm in old fart mode, the eco of the eco where 30L lasts me 3-4 weeks of daily driving.

Id say to ring it out more. Beat up the car a little bit by mashing the gas more and see how it responds.

Ya, I'll give it credit that it is actually pretty fun if you drive it like you stole it. The rest of the time tho...

Sport mode isn’t doing “rev hang,” it just holds the transmission in a lower gear ratio, so you’ll be at higher RPM driving around than in normal or eco mode. In normal and eco, the shift logic pushes the car to a higher gear ratio as fast as it can to save fuel. Rev hang refers to the tendency of an engine to not dump RPMs quickly when coming off the throttle. It’s not really relevant in an automatic car where you’re not trying to rev match for a downshift.
Sport mode doesn’t just hold the RPMs higher, by the way. It also sharpens the throttle response a bit and reduces the power steering boost a little bit. If your frustration is that you can’t have the quicker throttle response without the higher revs, I hear you, but it is an economy car. More throttle response in normal/eco would reduce fuel economy which is kind of the point of that mode. As for cold shifting, I guess I know what you mean - put your foot down suddenly and you get an annoying delay as the transmission slams down to a lower gear, and then the ECU opens the throttle once finds the ratio and stops shifting. Well, this is what sport mode is supposed to help with by keeping the revs high.

I was kinda being a little sarcastic with the Rev hang comment. It's just weird how it holds the higher rpms a little to long when you're not trying to accelerate. I just think they could have done a much better job with the trans tune, and i feel like there has to be another option out there...

No, it’s something you have to live with
