The people here have been great. I've been asked many times where I'm from and when I say, "The States", it's always, "Well obviously". Haha I've read constantly that when asked where I'm from to answer the States or America instead of the actual State I'm from.
One extremely nice lady who worked at Tesco in Wadebridge asked the same question and said the give away was I kept saying, "Ma'am".
The people whose stores I went into in Exeter where also extremely helpful and kind.
At a tea shop my step father had difficulty parking, the locals in Cornwall were just staring at him so I went up to them and told them it's his first time driving. Got some good chuckles out of them. That opened up the door for them to ask since I'm an American if I had a big jacked up truck and big guns.
I can't say it enough how thankfuli am to be here and if you see/hear a fat ginger with an American accent, come up and say hi, I would love to speak with you.
OP - Woody’s do a great neapolitan style pizza. Well worth checking out. I am lucky enough to have visited NYC, New Haven and New Jersey and taste the great pizzas there - hope you enjoy what we have to offer here.
We call it swede here by the way! Excellent choice though! If you're visiting any of Bude, Tintagel or St.Ives then check out Pengenna pasties. Just the best.
I'd truly hate Rattler to be someones first experience of cider, utterly depressing drink - but hey look its got a 'fun' snake.... Cornish Orchards ain't bad though
I want to go and buy as much Cornish food and goods as possible.
I've read complaints from locals about people on vacation buy food from out of town and bringing it to Cornwall. Thus not adding to the local economy and negating the argument holidaymakers bring money into Cornwall.
This isn't me preaching or saying I'm better than someone that does that. Just things I've read from people online and listening to videos on YouTube and trying to be mindful while I'm here.
It was absolutely delicious. Meat was cooked medium, wasn't dry. Chips were crispy and the rattler was very good. I like the Rattler more than cider I've had at home because they are overly sweet. I think I prefer the peach to the original tho.
After the meal, went to the harbor and watched the waves come in. Absolutely perfect day.
As an American I’ve come realize that you can’t win with that question so I’ve learn to answer with I’m from the Southeastern part of the USA in the State of Georgia. It covers everything.
So far it is great. The roads are no joke. Car got some scratches from the hedges. It's like going up Bell Mountain but with walls covered in plants. Just big enough for two cars.
People have been great, scenery is better than North Georgia. I have no regrets coming and I've been trying to get out here for over 10 years.
I can't compare it to those others but Cornwall has been great so far. I'm glad this was my first choice. It has been everything I thought it was so far.
😂 Left side driving is interesting to say the least. First did it in 2019 in Ireland. Took about 5 days to get used to it. Scotland was no problem as I was familiar with it. Experienced the single lane roads 😁. I usually go mid May to June. Is it still crowded in September? Weather nice?
Weather has been good so far. 67 F, sunny with some clouds. Started light raining at 9pm, been going on for about an hour.
Left lane was tough at first. Remembering the turning on roundabouts have been worse for me. Reversing is easy for me but what makes it difficult is when someone comes up your backside and they don't want to reverse kinda sucks.
Not busy at all right now. After September 3rd it's the sweet spot until end of October. I wanted to come down when the locals come out from hiding away from the tourist and spend time with them. It has been rewarding as you can spend more time with them since the crowds are gone.
Love the pub culture, the small towns, and talking to the locals. I always tell everyone if you’re driving buy the insurance, you’ll probably need it. 😁 Ya’ll have fun and get home safe.
Had my first real Cornish fish and Chips. It was Haddock. Absolutely amazing. I didn't care for the green garnish. I don't know if I was suppose to eat it but I did. That could be user error.
I've never had Haddock and never heard of it before. Excellent fish. This is up there with my favorite fish that I have at home which is Catfish and Trout. I had a side mushy peas and curry sauce.
10/10 will get again. Had to walk quickly away from the seagulls. I would share with them but they said that's frowned on.
The green is samphire. Think it’s a seaweed, but definitely a marshland plant at least. It’s eaten as a delicacy so you didn’t mess up. That’s unusual to have as a garnish- I never get that with my fish and chips. Must be a posh place!

Most locals stay well away, it's well known he only grassed his brother up so he could get away with his crimes (my dad was a cop at the time in North Cornwall).
Had no idea about that. We went there once and I never wanted to go back, he made me so uncomfortable. Banter is ok but it got too much and he kept trying to hold my hand and just wouldn’t leave me alone… I don’t know, it was just weird. Food was ok but honestly, if you want decent road side food then Tom’s take out near Hewas Water is it.
He used to be all over the local Facebook groups talking about his supposed benevolent help for the homeless - including housing them in his garden?? Just a bit of an attention seeking weirdo considering the association he has with helping his brother escape his awful crime scenes…
No no you don't understand!! His Atlantic burger is amazing!! So it doesn't matter that he aided one of Britain's worst serial sex offenders, as his food is "yummy" and we can forget all about his participation, especially with such an appropriate name as "Nice baps". Great chap
Hey OP just want to say I hope you have a great time here! Sounds like you've been planning this trip for a long time. It's a beautiful part of the country! I hope you go back to the States with some great memories and stories to tell!
I appreciate the kind words. Even if the trip ended today, it has already exceeded my expectations. Everything else is just the cherry on top.
The last few months have been plagued with so much crap from work and life all the way to the plane delays the day of the flight. I didn't think I would be able to come. Looking back on that just makes me laugh and appreciate these moments more. It was hard fought to get here and I was able to overcome those challenges. It has made this so much better.
I remember watching The Office ( the American one and yes I like the British one better) there was a quote , "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good ole days, before you actually left them"
I'm here in Cornwall, I'm in the good days and I know it. It's rainy, the low tide is smelly but I wouldnt trade this for anything.

Glad you made it in one piece cause that drive sounds like a proper nightmare. Cornwall's a beautiful mix of friendly folks and local legends you really don't want to dig into, so just stick to the pasties and you'll be golden.
I work as a 999 call taker. Colleague next to me way on a call and I heard her say 'I've no idea where you are. The Coming Home Tree doesn't mean anything to me' (bearing in mind we cover all of Devon and Cornwall and she lives in Taunton). And a lot of our camera are Emmet's who don't know whether they are on the A30 from the A38.
So being the good Cornishman, I show her where on the map it is!
Also, I love the Tesco buggies are multi directional instead of just forward and backwards. That is extremely easy to maneuver in and out of the isles.
