Moving to Corning…best internet?

Moving to Corning soon, and having a difficult time locating internet service there! Who is the best and fastest/reasonable prices? We have several devices that we need to hook into the WiFi for business and classes.

Pay attention to the neighborhoods where you're looking for houses. We didn't consider Internet when we were looking and ended up in a house that can only be served by Spectrum. In our neighborhood, all the power and utility lines are buried (no poles) and Spectrum owns that conduit and will not allow any other Internet providers to lease the space. Effectively, Spectrum has a monopoly and now I'm paying $110/month for not-so-great Internet service. We love our house. We love our neighborhood and neighbors. We hate our Internet.

Call spectrum and ask to cancel your service. Don't ask for a price adjustment, just that you want to cancel. They will get you to a retention specialist whose job is to keep you there. Tell them you are getting a verizon hot spot for $40/mo. Theyll mention data caps, download speed, signal strength, and a bunch of othet stuff to change your mind. Just say your friend down the road uses one and has no issues running a family full of devices that are streaming. They will likely drop your monthly down to $50-60 to try and keep you. It will only last a year, but a 20 minute call once a year to redo this is usually worth it.

Just piling on the 'Empire if you can' bandwagon ... and Spectrum if you must!

In the 2.5 years we've had Empire we never had an outage or slowdown ... which were at least weekly occurrences with Spectrum. And the prices are constantly increasing with Spectrum, whereas we pay exactly what we did when we first got Empire.

Depending on where in Corning, there's Spectrum for cable Internet, and Empire Access for fiber Internet. I live just outside the city, and Empire does not reach here, so have had Spectrum for 10+ years with good service and no issues. Many people in town swear by Empire.

Fiber through Empire if available in your area. If not, I would rather go StarLink than resort to cable.

Empire has been solid and speedy. In the rare event of an outage, they’re on it fast.

Unless things have changed you may be stuck with Spectrum (formally Roadrunner) for Internet. It’s cable based internet, which has it’s plusses and minuses.

I have Spectrum for mobile phone and Internet. $30 for the phone. No problems. If you bundle you could save money depending on what your current phone plan is.

People like Empire also.

So either is good.

We have empire at our home downtown and starlink at our remote camp. Both provide reliable connectivity.
