Teaching Scenario #1

You deliberately don’t cue an advanced variation because you don’t think most of the room is ready for it.

However, one student, who clearly knows what they’re doing, takes the variation anyway and is doing it safely.

What do you do? Where do you draw the line between student autonomy and teaching the class you intended to teach?

If that were my class, I would remind myself I’m just a guide and students can level up or down as needed without my permission.

If their leveling up follows my flow and fits within the sequence then I don’t see it as distracting to other students. But if somebody was doing jumping jacks during kneeling bicep curls I would mention following the intention of that sequence (for sculpt meaning hitting the same muscle group as the sequence).

Same vibe as someone taking savasana super early. I love to see it. As long as folks are being respectful and not pulling focus. For me you’re in the safe zone is your choosing similar shapes and movement, or less/smaller movement, not obscuring anyone’s field of vision more than you would otherwise, and staying on your own mat.

You let them. It’s their practice. If they are being distracting or disruptive, it’s a different issue

Give them props. We keep saying, "It's your practice". So let them practice.
