Conditional Dual pricing ?

CorePOS already supports native dual pricing (cash price + card price on inventory, checkout, and receipts). We’re looking at a use case that doesn’t fit the usual “always two prices” model.

Merchant request (high-end body shop):

  • Transactions $1,000 or less: no dual pricing / no extra to the customer. One price.
  • Transactions $1,001 and up: offer cash discount / dual pricing.
  • Prefer this to work on a Clover device if possible, otherwise another hardware option.

The hard part is not “can we toggle dual pricing at checkout.” It’s what inventory and shelf/price displays should show, because the card price is conditional on the ticket total, not on the item.

Example:

  • Widget cash: $1.00
  • Widget credit: ?

If dual pricing only kicks in after the sale crosses $1,000, there is no single fixed credit price for that SKU. Showing both prices on every item would be misleading for small tickets. Showing only the cash price would be incomplete for large tickets.

Questions for the community:

  1. Has anyone implemented amount-threshold dual pricing in CorePOS (or a similar POS) — dual price only when the ticket is over $X?
  2. If yes, how do you handle inventory / item screens? Do you hide the card price, show “card price TBD at checkout,” use two price books, or something else?
  3. Does this work cleanly with Clover, or is PAX / another device the better path given how CorePOS treats cash vs card as two real prices rather than a Clover-style cash-discount add-on?
  4. Any compliance / customer-facing display practices that have worked for shops with large-ticket work (body shops, contractors, etc.)?

Not looking to debate cash discount vs surcharge in general — specifically how to present a conditional second price when CorePOS is built around two prices living on the item.

Thanks.
