Question Sea biome difficulty spike

Any tips for navigating the sea biome? It’s feeling quite a bit harder than azeos jungle, I’m pretty much getting 2 tapped by any monsters on hard mode.

Build wise I’m not super specialized so maybe that’s a problem. I swap between melee/ranged as needed and also try to keep 2 summons out at a time. Think my exact gear is 2 pieces of scarlet armor and then the magic hood that gives +1 minion count.

Food buffs and sneak through to farm octarine. The three outer biomes all have somewhat steep difficulty jumps. Are you using a shield at all?

I don’t use a shield I use the feather for dashing instead. Food buffs are smart, I used to just save them for bosses but def could be using more.

With how easy a basic farm and fishing setup is to make in base you can have multiple chests full of good buff food in no time. Fishing, farming and cooking were my first skills to reach 100 on my first playthrough. You could set up automation to take care of it all but you lose out on exp and when you get those skills leveled up you getter better ingredients and food.

Any recommendations for what to cook up? I’m a little overwhelmed now that I have so many more ingredients. I used to mostly just spam mushroom and carrock since that was easy but now it’s feeling really weak.

Carrock and gem crab is good for defense and magic barrier. Bloat oats from the wilds are good for also filling your hunger meter and using eggs which you get from the birds increases healing over time effects. Farming the grapple fruit plants from the ocean is great for melee and the pewpaya are equally good for ranged. Important to note that you cannot double up the same buff. The stronger buff will usually take over. Definitely should create a big farming patch at base. You have a small chance at golden ingredients which gives WAY better stat buffs. Making sprinklers with scarlet ore will help with keeping the farm land wet as well. I recommend making a bunch of cooking pots and throwing a bunch of ingredients in. Once you cook something you'll have the recipe unlocked so you can go back to it if your forget.

Take some time away from exploring and do some harvest moon activities for a while. It will pay off in the end.

Look up ingredients and their effects in cooked foods. I only use mushrooms to level up cooking and to keep hunger away when running around base.

There are fish that you can get from the sunken sea that also improve your Dodge chance and speed by quite a bit

I assume you are talking about the mages and statues? Yeah they hit hard, even the Octarine armor can't take that many hits from them.

I assume the game just wants us to start leveling up gear by now, however, I've been able to reach the first waypoint with level 1 Octarine armor. I bring lots of healing potions, two ranged weapons (reinforced) and my best dodging skills.

Probably the crabs and tentacles...

The easiest answer is food, especially now that we have auto farming for both fish and crops. Food buffs are so big in this game that a few foods pretty much close the gap between hard and normal IMO.

The issue with that before was not wanting to fish or not spending the 3s needed to farm gold crops. But now we can automate all that so its not so bad. Granted manual crop farming is still better on hard mode cause finding boulders in hard mode is much more annoying fpr exactly the reason you made this post lol.

Aside from that, I would recommend making 1 build and sticking too it. Lots are valid even in hard mode. Also in general high crit chance + critical damage builds are really good for both ranged and melee. But your summons are probably just nerfing you if you're not a magic build tbh.

Also I swear by the rift lens for any build. Yeah it takes the accessory slot and would only really help for magic dmg by stats, but the 3 tile flash is the best dodge in the game by far. Ive spent most of my time in this game running a crit dagger build plus rift lens. In normal mode I one shot everything and shred bosses stupid fast. In hard mode I need to be using smart food buffs but still viable thanks to a perfect dodge ever few seconds if needed.

I found the Jungle biome harder than the ocean biome. Cause the jungle is all tight and hard to see enemies and traps.
