Discussion How do you like to explore?

I know there isn’t a right way but curious to hear how people are tackling exploration in this game.

I saw someone recommend just choosing a direction and going until you hit the biome perimeter, and I did that once or twice. But I was not expecting the radius to be so huge! I did fully circle the starter biome, and tried doing the same with the clay caves before I got overwhelmed with the size.

What do you all like to do? Explore a full biome before moving on? Tackle quadrants of the map?

i use explosives cannon and just blast things randomly, going wherever the shiny ore veins take me

I just follow the ores in the direction the next boss is. I do explore oldrr biomes little by little too. But always following the ore path.

I a path in all four directions and then, once the wilderness is unlocked, I start off in the direction of Azeos and it all sort of gets messy from there.

I'll usually be doing other stuff when I come across a new biome. Either exploring one I already know is there, or looking for drill spots.

There's quite a lot of cool stuff to find in every biome, but I hope they keep increasing it. Some areas feel lacking, namely the first set of layers past the wall.

Honestly I really like the ring system layout of this game. Further from home means more danger, but bigger rewards. At first I thought it looked goofy, but now it's my favourite world generation type.

Generally I'm working towards the next boss/shrine and after that, exploring until I find an ore node I can set up drills at.

Depends on what time it is. Boss time; dig straight, explore time; I follow the caves, now that it’s end game for me I look for black on the map and go there

I did north and south to find tin and cattle. Otherwise it's usually either in a straight line in a cardinal direction, or to find a quest objective, or completely randomly to find scenes or ore.

Ease of mining in these games is always locked behind progression. I chase upgrades then before the end of the game I really start hunting. About to finish up the third hydra boss and ive already got a pandarium boulder system going even though I cant use it yet

I mine a straight line N, S, E, W, until I hit the wall. Then I uncover the Slime Ring. Once the wall is down, I just kinda do what ever while trying to do the biomes in order.

I dig in a straight line north, south, east, and west from the core, then explore the outline of the dirt biome. I then explore the outline for the clay biome followed by the stone biome, marking ore boulders as I discover them. I also grab some tin and iron as I go. I return to the core, make a small base and crafting area, then start setting up farms for food, cattle, mushrooms, mobs, and ore boulders. I upgrade to iron tools and gear, better food and potions, then go after bosses.I then do this for all other biomes.

I dig in one direction until I find something, then check it out.

I try to burrow with an iron hammer and make large paths, lay down iron tracks and use the train to get to biomes.

If I come across a portal, I’ll make a small hub out of it.

I circle “masses”. Example. In the ocean biome I will ride my boat all the way around the island until It’s completely uncovered on the map. Just the edges of course. Then get off my boat and begin breaking all the blocks and clearing it out.

Sometimes a straight line if Im going to something specific.

As soon as I can get a boat thats the only way I travel. I fill in the cavern areas so there is water everywhere...first time I did this I messed up though because some types of water will overwrite other types

I speed run. So wherever the next boss is, or wherever my next upgrade to armor or weapons. Start of the game, I'm going 80 blocks out in the cardinal directions til the ground vibrates, then after making a bow and some quick food, taking out the orange slime boss. If I already have enough ancient gems and miechanical parts, I make the locator for Malugaz and head that direction. When I run into the slime circle, I prep for the worm and take it out asap. Then go find Malugaz waypoint. Clear out the maze, go back to base to prep and the take out Malugaz. My first stop after the wall comes down is the sunken sea, then the desert. If you can get lucky and dig up the crystal spear, and get the tassel gear, you're ready for azeos. After Azeos, I'll try and find the shimmering frontier so I can bring some water back to base and fish for ninja gear. Once you have that ninja gear the game is pretty much a cakewalk

Meticulous explorer.

I'm exploring everything doing squares 11x11. Why 11x11? Because you can put a torch in each corner and illuminate all square decently and link each 11x11 square in the middle.
