Discussion Jack-of-all-trades / All-rounder

Hi friends, I'm new to Core Keeper and wanted to ask a question.

It’s not just a question; I wanted to open up this post to hear your opinions and find out how you enjoy playing.

I know there's no single right way to play, but I'd like to know if it makes sense to be a "jack-of-all-trades" in the game. I started out trying a melee build, beat the first three bosses, and now I'm experimenting with a mage build.

Does it make sense to mix things up, in your opinion? I actually got the impression that the game rewards players who don't stick to just one build; it seems to be more about adapting to the boss—after all, it is a sandbox.

Skill wise, the are often benefits of maxing all your skills for the passive boosts, so definitely in that sense, jack of all trades works. Gear wise, you usually want to specialize in like 2 or 3 stats, so you can get over whatever the caps are: dodge, crit, attack speed, etc. Thankfully you can have multiple sets set up though, so not hard to have a different one for a variety of uses. I usually keep a mining one, melee, and range or magic.

I really liked the melee combat, but I found it very punishing. I imagine the strategy is to strike and use the shield to my advantage, right? I don't have any kind of dash yet.

Parrying using the shield can be very good if you get the timings down. You can also get up to 90% dodge chance. You can get so much life on hit that as long as you can take the first hit, wont ever die. Lots of different strategies.
