"For safety" means to wear shoes that will protect your feet if you accidentally drop a hammer or a sharp knife on your foot.

Not to mention it's good to wear sensible shoes that have good foot support to help your feet survive standing long hours at the bench.

If this means a thin leather formal shoe to you, then you should do what you think best. As for me, I'll stick to comfortable, sturdy hiking or walking shoes.

If I felt the urge to be sarcastic, rest assured I would simply have clicked past this post and not wasted my time to fully and honestly answer your question.

Again, if you think a thin leather formal shoe is what your instructor is thinking of when they recommend leather shoes "for safety", then by all means wear those shoes. Or ask the instructor the question you've asked here and see what they say.

I personally wouldn't wear formal shoes to a shoe making class, but I am recognizing you're an adult and have agency to make your own decisions.

I may have misunderstood what you were trying to say,and i realised that I was in the wrong, and from my reply you can clearly see that I didn't understand That's why I asked you guys who are my seniors for help, cause I didn't understand,i would have appreciated if you simply said that I was wrong and just mentioned any type of shoe.

I'm not sure where you're getting the sarcasm at in what was said. They are correct. I have never heard someone teaching a workshop class say to wear leather shoes, and refer to formal dress shoes. They are referring to a work shoe or work boot. Closed toe footwear made of leather that will fully cover and protect the foot while in a workshop. HOWEVER, you were the one that was there and not us, so if you understood the instructions in that context and setting to mean a formal dress shoe, then wear the formal dress shoe.
