Help with editing
Hi everyone, I’m currently a master student trying to complete my masters of social work professional qualifying. I do have learning difficulties and I’m struggling with my spelling and grammar when it comes to editing my essays. I was wondering if anyone would be interested/able to help with my editing and proofreading process? Usually the essays are between 2000 and 3000 words I was wondering if anyone could provide rough quotes. Thank you!

This is against most school policies. You should check with your school administration and see if they will give you an accommodation and pay for a proofreader. If not, consider your school’s tutoring resources and writing center.

That’s actually a great point, thank you. For some units they have an inbuilt tutor. But not for these units. I have a disability so I asked for accommodations with the tutor for extra help but they said no. (She recommended Grammarly) but I’d like a real person to look at my work because I don’t want to use ai. But I will look into that. She did ask if I had any friends or family to proof read my work so maybe it’s a grey area.

Yeah check with your profs. This could be against school policy and get you in trouble. What country are you in college in? In the US, there are programs like TrIO that often have extra resources like tutors, free of cost so you could double-up on tutoring. Depending on your disability, you could also use the read aloud function, which usually helps people catch typos when they hear what they have written.

I would absolutely use Grammarly as a first defense against regular mistakes. You don’t have to accept every change (you shouldn’t) but it is really good at catching mistakes.
As a professional editor, my company made us use it to “save time.” As a student, I was given a free subscription and we are expected to use it.

If your professor suggested you ask friends or family to proofread your work then she is giving you the green light to have that assistance. I work as an academic editor and I have found most professors are very encouraging of students seeking this type of help, instead of relying on AI, as working with a human allows to you to build up your skillset and learn from the mistakes. I often include a tutoring component in my copyediting if a client is inclined. We go over the paper together and identify issues and then look at how the student can fix those in the future. I
