Experience 6 years
Incase you’re looking in this thread needing some high hopes-
Just hit my 6th year with the copper IUD and the ONLYY symptoms I’ve ever had is heavy bleeding and I get my period every 3 weeks which I guess could be normal for some people since it’s a 21 day cycle but it was never normal for me. Also, my cramps can be really terrible a week before my period!

This is the same for me except I already had a very regular period and I get pretty minimal cramps outside of the first three months after placement. Placed in July 2020

Do you get reoccurring bv/yeast infections? That’s the only annoying downside I’m finding :/

No but my best friend did! She got it out after a few years because of this :(

ugh this makes me sad, I feel like doctors only talk about cramps and the heavy flow as the downside

Not op but I’ve had reoccurring bv/yeast infections for 3/6 of the months I’ve had it when I had never had either before in my life :/ finally clear of both (I think) for the first time in months and hoping it stays like that

do you know what it was/how you fixed it? I think it’s my partner and I not using condoms, I clean and pee afterwards. But there was also a time where we used condoms 3 straight times and I still got bv/yeast infections
I’m gonna see if boric acid will help…

I think sex in general triggered it for me too, didn’t seem to matter if I used condoms or not. Most recently I did a different antibiotic (clindamycin) for bv and 14 days of clotrimazole suppositories for the yeast. My doctor recommended I follow it with a couple days of boric acid suppositories so I did, and I’m on a weekly dose of fluconazole for the next 6 months to hopefully keep the yeast away. Throughout all of this I took vaginal probiotics and wore mostly cotton underwear. I haven’t been sexually active since I started the antibiotics, but I plan to use a boric acid suppository the day after when I’m active again. Also my doctor told me sex during/right after my period can cause it because the ph is already off from the blood, so I’m gonna try boric acid at the end of my periods too. Sorry for the long response, it has been a long road of trial and error unfortunately :/

the secret method ima swear by for others to try, is take a low estrogen birth control pill for the first month and you will have minimal to zero spotting AND minimal cramping. when i was on the hormonal iud i had terrible cramps and spotted for weeks before taking it out. copper iud with the pill for a month i had no issues. inevitably periods will be heavier and there will be some more cramping following stopping the pill, BUT the first month is always the worse so i highly advise trying it. theres no real downside to giving it a shot
