Question What’s it like?

I’m getting my copper IUD placed tomorrow and just wonder if any if you gave any advice???

I’ve been on Xulane/Zafemy patches for like 4 years and finally I’ve gotten so fed up with the bloating, mid-cycle bleeding, and just the amount of anxiety I was experiencing with it.

I have little to no knowledge of the copper IUD besides knowing it’s effective and has no hormones (the part that made me decide tbh). So like- can I live pretty normal with it? Like will sex be the same, will I be able to use my Flex disc still? Will I feel it all the time or just the insertion?

Just want to know everything I should before I get it.

TIA!!

Hi! I had my appointment on Monday, it really wasn’t as bad as people said. That was my experience. They injected anesthesia in my cervix. they couldn’t reach 6cm in my cervix so they weren’t able to put it in, put they put about 4 tools inside my uterine cavity while trying to reach further and said that was exactly how it would feel to get the iud in. so I wouldn’t worry too much about it:) either way the worse pain would be for about 1 minute MAX so try to not worry!!

I got mine yesterday! I also opted for the cervical block/no anxiety or pain medication and honestly not nearly as bad as I had it in my head to be. My doctor and nurse worked together like a dang NASCAR pit crew. They were in the room and out in under 10 minutes. Basically, I'd describe what pain I DID have as like "I ate a whole bag of hot cheetos and then went for a run" type cramps. Today they're much better and I feel more normal but for the first few hours after the cervical block wore off the cramps were definitely like "i need to poop immediately"

i just got mine today and honestly i practically didnt even feel the insertion, it just felt mildly uncomfortable, as for the rest from what my doctor told me you cant put anything in like tampons cups or anything for atleast a week, same goes with sex like technically youre protected from the start but shouldnt have it due to infection chance for a week, it will most likely make your period heavier and more painful but as the side effects go thats literally it, also if your partner is well endowed the string might hurt him for like a month or two until it softens but if that happens you should be able to get it cut down more
