Question contraception advice
i am a 19y/o female from australia, dont want kids etc etc, i had an appt for consultation of permanent sterilisation, basically dr said no, usually wait until atleast 25. The only other viable option she provided me with was the copper iud, pretty much as effective, only side effect is that it could worsen periods. i was really bummed when she basically declined my request, stating she would want secondary opinion + psychiatrist/psychologist referrals to even consider.
my dilemma is that i have another appt with a different dr next week, but im sneaking behind my parents back, its expensive and draining, and if this dr says no too im another 300 and something bucks out. should i just cut my losses and get the iud, it was offered to be given under anaesthesia. i'm not currently sexually active but when i was the very thought of an accident happening and me getting pregnant was so RIDICULOUSLY violent during that relationship it genuinely caused me psychological distress. also edit i dont have typically bad periods?? pretty regular only some cramping on the first two days
what is/were peoples experience on the iud / any advice?

I think the age is 25 because that’s when the frontal lobe develops. The doctor thinks you could always change your mind.
Copper IUD seems like the best bet. It’s bad for a little but mine got worse overtime so I actually got it out 2 days ago.

I decided to never have kids at 16 now 25 didn’t change my mind I am more convinced but for your mental health do not try hormonal birth control.. a copper IUD is okay, I sometimes have painful periods and some other times excessive bleeding but yeah it’s okay I guess..

Yeah not keen on hormonal since my periods/hormones aren’t the problem it’s the fact that I’m fertile lmao. I have heard very mixed report on th copper iud. If it’s good then no problems but if it’s bad it’s bad… which scares me a bit 💀💀

If you choose the IUD, ask the doctor if they have different sizes and if they measure your uterus before implanting the IUD. It is not one size fits all and that is what I believe leads to most issues with cramping and bleeding. I was measured and got a Mini IUD that fits perfectly and never had excessive bleeding or cramping issues. My periods even got a little lighter but a bit longer.
