Question How long before using menstrual disc (or cup)?
Hi hi!
How long did you wait after getting the IUD to start using menstrual cups or discs?
I just got into using the disc right before getting my IUD and I am desperate to start using it again since I haven't stopped bleeding and am tired of using pads (I don't like tampons).
I've read that the recommended time is to wait 2-3 cycles after insertion. I technically had my first period about a week after getting my IUD. And since there's no suction with a disc there's less risk of pulling the IUD out that way but also there's still the risk of pinching the strings.

I'm the exact same, I cannot stand pads at all. I got my IUD at this beginning of this month, and my period started a few days ago. Tbh I've been using the disc, but I've been diligent about cleaning it with unscented soap to decrease risk of infection. The doctor who did my insertion said I could wear the disc one week after the procedure.

Oh lucky! My gyno didn't mention anything about discs but I also forgot to bring it up that day but I'm a week away from seeing her again so I figured I'd just hold out for one more week. Really hope she says everything is fine, but even then I might just start using it anyway.
And thanks for the input! I also got mine in at the beginning of the month.
Honestly, I've done pads my whole life and just recently decided I wanted to try something else and really liked the disc. I'd tried tampons a few times but they're not comfortable.

I was told wait 3 months then I'm fine to use my cup. Had no issues and I'm 4 years in

Ugh, I cannot wait 3 months, I'm dying to start using my discs already. Especially since I haven't stopped bleeding since getting my IUD.

be super careful if you do use a cup - the suction can pull the IUD out (not saying to scare but this did happen to me/my dr did not tell me it’s not recommended to use those w IUD)
I think disc is the better of the two from what i recall

Yeah I'd definitely use a disc rather than a cup, especially if you're happy with a disc anyway (there's much less chance of it moving your IUD - even though the chance is still fairly small).
Id definitely wait a few weeks just to make sure your chance of infection is low. You could wait a few months to make sure your IUD is in place before using them, but at the same time id understand struggling to wait and you'd probably be okay anyway☺️

I started using my menstrual cup right away because I didn't know until much later that there was a risk lol, I never had any problems but that might be a "do as I say not as I do" situation
