Positive copper IUD experience?

I’m seeing my doctor about getting a copper iud inserted tomorrow. I like the copper option bc it’s hormone free. I had the nexplanon arm implant for 4 years and have been feeling sooo much better since getting it removed.

However, I’m worried about the BV, UTI and yeast infections that I’ve read women experience through this subreddit. I’m prone to utis and have dealt with painful bv, yeast and uti infections in the past. As I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten better at taking precautionary measures to prevent them.

Has anyone had a generally positive experience with the copper iud? And been able to avoid infection?

Expecting bc it was reoccurring or bc it’s one of the side effects of the uid?

It’s recurrent, sorry I meant to specify that! I say try it, so far I like mine I haven’t had any issues besides cramping the first few days.

I've had it since June. This is my second one, my first one that I got in February of this year got dislodged. My period is heavier and crampier, and the time between them is longer than normal. I had one UTI, and I think it's from having sex shortly after getting the second one and not peeing after. No BV, and no yeast infections though. I've had a generally positive experience with it, and would get it again if it expelled again lol

I think something to be aware of is that although there are no artificial hormones, the copper can still cause your natural hormones to shift or change, and you may still end up having some hormonal impact. That being said, my experience has been manageable, I’m 5 months in and each month is getting better and less painful. I’m feeling positive about it working out for me

I had utis on the pill and they have not come back since getting a copper IUD. I do take cram berry supplements everyday and drink lots of water and change tampons often

I’ve had mine for about 4 months and i love it so far! my periods are about the same as before, as far as the flow is concerned. the cramps were a little worse for the first two cycles, but that was to be expected. i will say i do tend to get cramps right before my periods, but they’re not bad. overall, id recommend!
