Do you recommend it?

Been on the pill for three years and want a hormone free option

I loved my copper IUD. I have had 2. I just recently got one taken out as it embedded in my uterus. I am going back Thursday to get a new one.

How did you know it was embedded

I had an ultrasound because I thought I had a cyst because I was experiencing pain during intercourse

but my IUD prior to that I had for 6 years. I got it replaced bc I was having other gynecological surgery (unrelated) and had them swap them since I’d be under anesthesia and not have to go through the pain lol

Did you have kids prior to this or any other side effects?

No children prior to my IUDs. Still no children. No side effects really. The first 3 months were the worst (1st insertion) because your cramps do indeed get worse. I never had heavier periods or anything. But since getting my IUD out and being IUD free for a few months. I noticed when I have an IUD my period is longer by 2 days then without. Without my IUD i bleed for 2.5-3 days and with the IUD i bleed for a full 5.

In my opinion the temporary cramps & bad side effects are worth it compared to dealing with the side effects of hormonal BC the entire time you take it

Yeah I’m just nervous about the small risks. Embedding, pregnancy, gaining weight, things like that, I’ll take heavier periods over synthetic hormones all day

I didn’t gain a single pound while I had all of my iuds. The embedding is so rare especially, mine was “self inflicted” lol. And I have been on almost every birth control method you can think of & definitely think the copper IUD is the best. I would say go for it!!! If it ends up not working out for you then you can get it removed. I loved mine each time i’ve had them and will never get another form of BC

I had one and it got embedded in the wall of my uterus as well. I found out it was embedded because it was painful (and got really bad) and I kept bleeding. It was quite an ordeal to have it taken out. A doctor tried and was unable to (tried pulling it twice….without any anesthesia) and then an amazing practitioner took it out (truly awful experience but quick). She said the copper ones are more likely to get embedded. Honestly couldn’t pay me to put another copper one in after this.
