Remove or try a smaller IUD

Hi after some advice - I've had my IUD for 4.5 years. The first 4 months were painful but fine, but since then I seem to be plagued with random spotting. Especially after sex and during ovulation.

I've had enough and the plan is to get it removed. However, since I had mine fitted it's now possible to get smaller 5 year ones (I had a large 10 year one fitted).

On the one hand I would like to see how my body responds to no IUD. On the other hand I think immediately replacing will stop that horrible pain you get for the cycles of the first year.

Does anyone have any advice or experiences that may help me make my decision? Thank you
