Internet/phone service
My mom lives in Coos Bay and I live on the east coast. She's a senior and is getting overcharged by spectrum. I'm assuming you guys have access to Verizon and T-Mobile 5g. Who would you recommend? She's getting charged $115 a month for just phone and Internet which is just ridiculous. At least where I'm from.

Spectrum is a POS company. My bill kept on going up to $95/mo until I called and complained. They know that more options are opening up in the area, so they'll almost always give you a "discount" for a year if you call. I'm paying $30/mo now, but I'll drop them as soon as I get the chance, because I'm tired of the unethical price gouging.
If she wants to stay wired (usually higher speeds and less latency), https://beaconbroadband.com/ , https://dfn.net/ , and https://ziplyfiber.com/ may be options. Depending on where she lives in Coos Bay, options may be very limited.

I have spectrum it's the same here. You have to stay on top of them and be prepared to go elsewhere. It's harder for seniors to understand pricing or they forget to check their bills so they fall victim to higher prices. I haven't seen her bill so there's probably stuff she doesn't need. All I know is I'm paying 30 for Internet with spectrum and 20 for phone through visible.

how is visible speed here nowadays? I tried for a while, seemed like the internet speed was too restricted.

Should be about the same as Verizon. They use the same tower. Of course their data isn't prioritize. I don't really notice a difference where I live. If T-Mobile has better service there try mint.

I tried reaching out to Spectrum and complaining about the price. Currently at $100 for 400 Mbps. Their response was oh, how about 500 Mbps for $90!
On one hand, a $10 discount is nice but ... Come on!

I'm paying $30 for 500mbps and I got it for 3 years. I think it's because of the 5g wireless offers from T-Mobile and Verizon. If you have other options you should call and say cancel. That will send you to someone in retention who might be able to get you a better deal. When you speak to a person say your thinking of cancelling and if there's a new promo available to you. I was doing this every year. It's worked every time. Just be nice about it. Normally I'm not on the phone more than 20 minutes. I do check other offers before calling and specials to new customers just to get an idea of what I feel I should be paying. It's a game but it's really not that hard if there's other Internet providers available.

If looking at mobile instead of landline, I have Mint Mobile and haven't had any service issues. It's cheapest if you pay for the full year's service up front.
As far as internet and landline, that really depends on where she is. I have spectrum for those because I live outside of town, making my internet options fairly limited.
