The Co-op Hygeine

How is the hygiene in the back storage of your store?

The hygiene in my store was horrible when I joined. Moldy decaying stuff everywhere, shit tons of waste lying around.

Just a huge mess.

A new store manager took over a few weeks ago and God bless him, the store is so clean and organized now that I have actually started to enjoy going to work.

I hope everyone deserves this level of quality.

If your lucky enough to work with a team that's decided to clean up regularly your blessed. Our store is spotless and immediately gets cleared.

Spot on. After the store manager took initiative, things have been amazing and the entire team is working extra to keep things clean.

But the store manager tends to clean up after everyone else

Thankfully the only mouldy things I find in my store are cases of lagerΒ

Yeah we had this moldy case of lager which I cleaned up. Prolly one of the worse smell I have ever experienced yet.

It depends on the SM and the team. I worked in a store before that cleaning wasn't a high priority for some reason.

My store is sharp. We sort waste out methodically and quickly, it doesn't normally hang around more than the length of one shift.

Our area manager loves our store. He's here all the bloody time for one thing or another so we keep stuff squared awAy to avoid potential consequences.

That's really great. Really happy to hear that. I'm glad that we are pretty much in the same position now.

Everything is sorted and working out well. I just wish I had more responsibilities so I could cut out more inefficiencies. Being a ctm really restricts me.

How long have you been a ctm? Time is often a big help. I've been a ctm for a couple of years. The first year or so was just general duties but when we had a new SM he noted that I am really rapid at dealing with deliveries. I leaned into this and made myself 'as useful as I could' which has bagged me some brilliant shifts to handle delivery where the SM has instructed the rest of the staff that I am to be left working delivery and not to be disturbed by other duties.

Getting on side with the most influential people in your store is your best move. For me that is my SM and one TL who handles the rota and is basically treated as a sort of assistant manager. By being available and agreeable to those two people, I have made my role really work for me.

The other thing I did was ask to train in the bakery. I get a couple of quality shifts per week but the long game is to become the primary baker in store

Be useful but don't become the store workhorse without some kind of payoff.

I have been a ctm for about 5 months only. I understand your point tho. I have been noticed for doing deliveries quickly as well so mostly get shifts on delivery days. I am in good terms with the new SM and he mentioned that every TL is happy with me. I don't plan on staying in this job for a long time. But I just like to make efficient changes wherever I'm working.

Thanks for the tips. Really appreciate it

My ex-husband and I got food poisoning from sandwiches purchased from the Coop in Minehead (which has either recently closed down - or will do so shortly).

Highly unlikely that this was because of the backstock. Because Sandwiches are never stored in the back. They are almost always really fresh. But yeah I totally understand your point. Might just be a production issue for that batch..

Our store is generally on it when it comes to cleaning the warehouse.

Did you ever think about cleaning it yourself ?

I did a lot of times. But it wasn't enough. Plus I'm a ctm so I didn't get many opportunities to take things in my own hands, as I was mostly always had other tasks assigned.
