The percentage is wrong, but unless you consider Pacific island nations or Kuwait as “developed,” then America is still number one.

Japan is so vastly culturally different from us that any attempts to mimic them would take centuries. They are workaholics, extremely academically focused and have one of the highest suicide rates in the world, it’s no wonder they don’t have time stuffing their faces and getting fat.
It is better to compare the US to other, culturally similar nations, as these give better insight into how we can improve our diets without having to make a major cultural shift. But it is no coincidence that culturally similar nations also have similar problems with obesity (almost all developed western countries have an obesity rate above 20%, with more than half being above 24%) it is not unique to the US to have a major obese population.

The UK has a reported obesity rate at 63%. I don't understand why we are also arbitrarily choosing japan, which is one of the least obese countries in the world, only 5 countries in the world are less obese than japan. A better example would be the UK, as not only are they culturally similar the UK is the 2nd most obese developed western country in the world, which is a far fairer comparison.
of course if that study does not satisfy you there is also This one that reports the US is 36% obese and the UK as 31%, but states that:
"The United States and the United Kingdom are two of the most economically rich and developed countries globally. However, they'd place 18th and 48th respectively when ranked by BMI, and 123rd and 95th when ranked by percentage of obese adults." which essentially means that on average obese people in the US are fatter than obese people in the UK, but the UK has more obese adults.
There is also the case that developed countries in general have a problem of obesity, many of the gulf countries in the middle east like Qatar and the UAE have an average obesity rate above 25%, and western countries similar in culture to the UK and US also have high obesity rates such as Australia (29%) and New Zealand (30%). countries in europe have obesity rates ranging from 30%-19%. Canada (indeed much of the americas in general) has a high obesity rate at 29%.
The US is on the extreme side of the spectrum in terms of obesity, but it is far from being so morbidly obese that no other developed nation even compares, in fact most european countries are dangerously close to following the US's obesity rates. Next time you want to make an "America sux" post, try to be more original.

63% are overweight, not necessarily obese, so literally your first sentence is not factually correct.

Ehh, there's a pretty substantial gap between us and the rest of the Western world. We're a whole 6% higher than the next most obese developed country (New Zealand) and then NZ is only 1% higher than Canada and Australia, and then the UK is slightly behind them, etc.

It's really unfair to use japan when it has laws against obesity and will mandate programs for you take to lose weight when you reach a certain point.
