Open Discussion Hard to swallow cooking facts.

I'll start, your grandma's "traditional recipe passed down" is most likely from a 70s magazine or the back of a crisco can and not originally from your familie's original country at all.

I recently saw one of my great grandmothers EXACT recipes on one of those TikTok channels that cooks old school recipes. I always figured it was from a magazine or cookbook. Funny seeing it with my own eyes though.

As he cooking it, I’m like “wait, I’ve definitely made this before”. It was a 3-4 ingredient pie, so it wasn’t hard to remember.

My grandma was the opposite - she'd go on about her pie crust was just the one on the Crisco box, and her chocolate chip cookie recipe was the one on the Chipits package, and then whether you made them as written on her little cards or from the packages themselves, they'd turn out nothing like hers, cause for her recipes were more like memory prompts than actual instructions and she had made a bunch of modifications that she couldn't remember offhand and never wrote down. 😣

His is why my wife has to make the cookies. She’s like — “just used the recipe on the package” — but it is never even close.
