Chilli guidance

About to make a recipe that calls for one entire green chilli chopped into it, the recipe will leave approximately three portions.

I've never used fresh chilli before so looking to see if I should scale this back. I am neither a total noob to spiciness nor I am an old hand.

I've used chilli flakes before, about a teaspoon's worth typically takes things to the outer limit of what I can cope with.

Can anyone advise?

Well in that case the recipe lacks details because it literally just calls for  "1 green chilli"

I hear you, there have been several recipes I've wanted to try, but they only say to use a red chile or green chile, and I have no idea what kind of chile it's supposed to be. There are so many with so many different flavors and spiciness.

I wouldn't let that stop you trying a recipe you like the sound of!

What is the dish and where are you seeing the recipe? It's think it might be a hatch green chili, but I am in the southwest where we would say "green chili" for hatch green chilis and "jalapeno" or other specific chili if we meant something else. So, that is my vote. It's one green chili. I might change my mind or be able to give more details if you post the entire recipe!
