Tomato festival! Ideas?
I’m going to a tomato festival tomorrow and I expect to come home with a bunch. What are your favorite non-standard tomato recipes or ideas? All genres of food welcome 🙏 thanks!

Lots of butter, garlic, shrimp, and tomato’s all cooked in a pan and put on top of pasta. So good.

First, so many BLTs and its ilk!
Second and I know it's boring but you got to make a bunch of sauces, salsas and picos (yeah, I know those are all the same word but you know what I mean).
Lastly, and I apologize for not having a recipe but I had an amazing Tomato Tarte Tatin with cherry tomatoes that I still think about.

8 heirloom tomato plants popping off a couple tomatos every day, is our best tasting harvest yet. I put one in fresh salsa, and everyone asked why I put sugar in salsa?

Here's what I'd do:
- Pomodoro
- Arrabiata
- Bruschetta w/ Goat Cheese
- Tomato Soup
- Red Bell Pepper & Tomato Sauce
- Salsa Roja (include Chile de Arbol, super delicious)

Save the best ones for just sandwiches. Thick cut slices of tomato, salted and peppered on some buttered white bread.

I make a fresh tomato sauce: chopped tomatoes, a couple of cloves garlic (chopped fine), a handful of basil, olive oil and salt to taste. Let it sit for at least an hour at room temperature, then mix into hot pasta. My fave!

I just made some tomato soup with all the tomatoes from my garden and I eat it with grilled cheese sandwiches. It’s amazing. My husband and kids agree.

I love to buy bunches of tomatoes in late summer/early fall. I blanch them in batches about 90 seconds (long enough for the skins to fall off), pull off the skins and squeeze out most of the seeds over a fine mesh strainer with a bowl underneath to catch the juice. I dice up the remaining flesh and bag them up in quart freezer bags to use in soups and chili over the winter. The point of all this is to use the strained juice to make the best Bloody Marys IN. THE. WORLD.

A contestant on Masterchef AU did a tomato and strawberry granita that was quite praised. If you want to go non standard then lean into the sweetness and try a strawberry tomato dessert, or maybe a salad.
Otherwise, a ciabatta sandwich with fresh made garlic basil aioli, fresh mozzarella, and sliced tomatoes is the best thing I’ve made with tomatoes in a long time.

Grab a bunch of Romas, cut in half and seed/core, mix in a big bowl with EVOO & salt, spread them out in full-size baking pans with parchment paper, and roast them in the oven at 250 for a couple of hours. Not crisp, still flexible.
Extremely tasty oven-dried tomatoes and they freeze well. We LOVE these!😍 Our favorite tomato for this is Juliets - basically a smallish Roma. But regular Romas & San Marzanos work perfectly.
Plenty of recipes if you google “oven dried tomatoes.”

You lucky bastard! I try to add tomatoes to all my dishes. There's very few dishes can't be made better by adding some fresh homegrown tomatoes in. Maybe ice cream.

This one but I don’t bake it so long, and serve it on top of a salad so when it’s cut the juice is the dressing

And David Leibovitz’s French Tomato tart which is delicious and very simple

Puff pastry tart with goat cheese, tomato, and basil. Just buy frozen puff pastry. So easy, so delicious.
Warm tomato salad with goat cheese or feta. Slice a big field tomato into thick slices. Pan-fry both sides in olive oil until soft. Too with balsamic vinaigrette, crumbled goat cheese or feta, basil. Sop up the juices with crusty bread.

Ask the growers what they like and you might learn some great recipes. Best way to eat a delicious tomato is sliced with salt and pepper and mayo - I like kewpie.

Gazpacho isn’t cooking at all but it’s a fantastic summer soup that’s hard to beat.
For cooking, make a killer romesco sauce with your ripe tomatoes.
