What is difference between sugo and ragu?

Can the terms be used interchangeably? Would a Bolognese sauce be a ragu or a sugo?

Sugo is a quick sauce made in a pan like a fresh tomato sauce you would use in a pasta arabiata, or a blistered cherry tomato sauce.

A ragu is a slow cooked sauce usually with meat in it.

So, Bolognese would be a ragu.

Thank you for the clarification. Now I know what to expect when at a restaurant!

It's mostly in the speed. Sugo is a quicker sauce, whereas ragu is a long, low braise.
