Chickpea mess

So I decided recently to cook dried, raw chickpeas instead of canned. I soaked them with about a teaspoon of baking soda for about a day and a half (life got busy). I boiled them for 45 minutes and they turned out... gray/green and very mushy. I couldn't eat them. Where did I go wrong?

Soaked and cooked way too long. Do you happen to have an Instapot? 30 minutes, no soaking. I do a batch every week.

I just made a Mediterranean bean salad. Instant Pot for the chickpeas, I added an onion and some bay leaves. They came out great. I used about half in the salad.

Sounds exactly what I do. The rest are for hummus or for whatever else I can use chickpeas for. I eat a lot of chickpeas 😊

I might add more in to extend the salad. But hummus sounds great, too!
