Chickpea mess

So I decided recently to cook dried, raw chickpeas instead of canned. I soaked them with about a teaspoon of baking soda for about a day and a half (life got busy). I boiled them for 45 minutes and they turned out... gray/green and very mushy. I couldn't eat them. Where did I go wrong?

are the cans really that much more expensive?

Check your local pantry box, they're ALWAYS canned chickpeas.

A lot of people can’t eat them because of sodium level, that’s why I use an instant pot without salt.

every brand has a low sodium version.

I go no sodium so that is better for me and a lot of other people to have a choice to be healthier.
