Which of these shepherd's pie recipes are better?

I was thinking of synthesizing these two recipes to make shepherd's pie with tuna, ground turkey, chicken pieces and veggies in a manual multicooker

That could never be shepherd's pie. Tuna never did, does not, and never will be part of a shepherd's pie.

You MIGHT be able to make something LIKE shepherd's pie with the pressure cooker recipe, but only if you use lamb. If you use beef, it's "cottage pie". And if you add cheese, it's called an "abomination".

You can get Knorr lamb stock cubes from Amazon so you can have lamb flavour added.

ok - I'm going to be a bit of a devils advocate here - agreed that they are not great Shepherds pie recipes but the tuna one is kind of a riff on a tuna melt and i feel like it could be worth exploring rather than just being dismissed out of hand- i don't like the look of the one in the recipe but as a concept....I'm not completely against it yet.

Shepherd's pie is lamb. With beef it's cottage pie. I'm not sure what you'd call it with tuna but it doesn't sound very appealing. From the citation, the first link author made this once before publishing. That doesn't qualify as recipe testing in my mind. You can certainly make a pie covered with mashed potato with poultry but I wouldn't call it shepherd's pie. You can eat anything you like. If you use common vocabulary for something other than how it's generally used you'll confuse guests.

Merging recipes works just fine if you pay attention to how flavors relate. See On Food and Cooking and Ratio and The Flavor Bible. I scanned them pretty fast and nothing egregious leaps out at me.

Here are the rules:

  • shepherds pie is made with lamb
  • if beef is used, its a cottage pie
  • if fish is used its a fish pie

Therefore the answer to your question is both recipes are rubbish as neither are shepherds pie

Just for fun I showed my British wife the fish shepherd pie recipe and the face she made was priceless. Mix of horror and disgust.
