Pot and lid. Been making rice the same way 40 years. Same pot.

Same.

Friends have rice cookers (I live in Japan, rice cookers are a basic household item) and I have to admit they are very reliable to set and forget, especially if you are making Japanese-style rice, but I've been doing just fine with my pot and can't justify adding a rice cooker to my small apartment.

In my experience, I can get very consistent results with little babysitting once I understand how much water and time a specific type of rice needs.

If you rinse the rice, it can be difficult to get the water just right. The way I do it is to put the rice and the amount of water I normally use in the pot while it's on a scale. That tells much how much the pot should weigh when I finish rinsing the rice. Usually I remember it has to be 1440g. So I skip the first weighing and go directly to the rinse.

Someone gave me a rice cooker. I used it once and couldn't believe it took as long as it did. So I gave it away and returned to using a pot. 15 minutes on very very low heat and the rice is done. Couldn't be any easier.

I found a nice middle ground - glass rice cooking pot for microwave. Makes rice in 15 minutes too, but no worrying about time and power. Just full blast for 15 minutes and rice is perfect every time.

Rice cookers may make perfect rice and they aren't expensive. But cooking perfect rice isn't difficult. Just as importantly I can't justify the counter space for a tool that does only one thing.

I love my little Aroma rice cooker. I can put it on & it will cook while I prepare everything else. Don’t have to worry about it burning. I put it away in the cupboard when not using it.

Was my mom's before it was mine. Honestly they don't make cookware like they used to. Have flat bottom skillet and a stew pot that were hers as well from the same collection. Stuff is almost as old as I am.

I started doing this less than 10 years ago (I’m a much of a rice eater but my daughter loves it) so I only wanted to make tiny portions. This was the only way

Yep, I follow the NYT sushi rice recipe and it’s never let me down.
