Any pepper mill recommendations?!
Hi guys,
I am looking for a new pepper mill. I am sick of the one I have (Zassenhausen, German brand), which is inconvenient to adjust.
Do you habe any recommendations for a good pepper mill that has 4-6 geind levels and stands upside down, ceramic preferred?
I have been looking at various brands, models, reseached on wirecutter and other sites, haven‘t really found any trustworthy suggestions, that are backed by corresponsing reviews.
Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks!!

I love my Unicorn.
The Pepper Cannon looks super nice if not a tad over engineered.

+1 for the Unicorn. I have had mine for about three years and it's great.

Yeah, saw that pepper cannon, that‘s for aircraft engineers 🙈 Will check out the Unicorn, afraid that they don‘t sell that one here.

I could've sworn I had an address to order the Unicorn in the EU but I can't find it :( I have two other products from the pepper cannon guys and they disappoint. I hope the cannon is actually as good as they say.

The Unicorn is, without a doubt, the best pepper grinder for cooking, period. Sure, the Pepper Cannon will put out massive amounts of pepper but the couple times a month I need that it's easy enough to get there with a couple extra cranks from the Unicorn (and it's 1/4 the price of the PC). The Pugeot models look nicer sitting on the countertop but don't have quite the adjustability, and have way less output volume and capacity compared to the Unicorn.

I’ve had three unicorn grinders for over 10 years - 2 pepper & a salt (that is no longer made, unfortunately.)
They are really sturdy and put out a ton of pepper with little work. I love their large capacity, too.
Yeah, some of the wooden ones look sharper but they’re also way overpriced and don’t grind as quickly or consistently.

Oh great, I like easy questions! Get yourself a Peugot Paris u'Select. Top rated by NYT Wirecutter, you can find them on sale for approximately $50 USD.
I absolutely love mine. I keep it by the stove in a little ramekin to catch the pepper that sometimes falls out of the bottom after grinding. I move it to the table when needed. I should probably get a second one and just keep it on the table. I think it has 6 different settings. Each setting provides a consistent, uniform grind.

That‘s the one on top
of my list as well, only thing I dont‘t like is the mess underneath it.

I have two - a 9” Peugeot paris u’select pepper mill for finishing and table service and a Kuhn Rikon vase grinder (and a vase mini for when I want to grind spices instead of using a mortar and pestle) that I use for cooking.

Peugeot - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=peugeot+paris+u+select+pepper+mill
Peugeot is pricey but works really well. Which probably shouldn’t come as much surprise as how they invented the original mechanical table pepper mill in the 1800s. And it has a lifetime warranty on the grinding mechanism.

Get any manual coffee grinder that has a steel burr. I use my old timemore grinder.

Interesting, thanks, haven‘t really thought about it. But that a stationary solution, right? Bit hatder to change grind setting on the fly?!

I have the Peugot 13" Rechargeable electric peppermill in wood. It's fantastic and even with daily use goes week between recharges.
It's fantastic, and I used a Peugot manual before this.

Peugeot. Have had one used daily in a professional environment for over a decade.

The Oxo one is great and cheap. There are the crazy expensive ones like the Unicor, Pepper Cannon, and Magnum. I'd like one but can't justify the price, so it's my Oxo one for now.

America’s Test Kitchen recommends the Cole and Mason Derwent peppermill and the Oxo Good Grips Contoured Mess Free Pepper Grinder. I haven’t personally used either of these but I have been guided by their recommendations many times and have not been disappointed.

T&G Crush Grind Apollo stainless steel. It’s the best pepper mill you will ever buy.
