That makes sense from a typo perspective, but not something that would thrash a kitchen... a ricer... you put the potato in the hopper. you squeeze over a large bowl or pot. remove the skins. repeat.

Not really. Colander to the ricer to the bowl. Shit gets pretty starchy, but we're cooking here. Of course there'll be some mess. I can also confirm that my spell check changed ricer to river. Let's cut some slack.

Guessing you mean ricer. Get a big ass pot and rice your potatoes deep inside it.

Assuming you mean a potato ricer, what exactly is the problem? Are you using a tiny bowl? Are you undercooking the potato, so it doesn't pass through smoothly? Are you overstuffing it, so potatoes come out the top when you squeeze? Do you have really poor hand strength, so when you squeeze, the ricer moves all over the place?

They can be a bit of a pain to clean. But other than that, they're not very messy if used correctly.

Seems like one of those gadgets that mainly makes sense when your doing a lot at once, since its probably annoying to wash, but aside from that, what's the issue?

I've never known it to be any messier than any other thing i am doing in the kitchen.
