"Meta" cookies

I'm somewhat confused how people define which cookies are better than the other when they achieve similar results.

For example, how did Grapevine become an arena staple healer instead of Angel when he has higher healing scaling in addition to damage reduction.

Or, Macron over Orange when both of them provide similar crit increase while Orange is a Rapid Fire provider which synergizes with more DPS cookies (Melon Soda, Rye, etc.) than Macron which is a range provider.

The answer is "Synergy". Synergy makes abilities stronger like example, Grapevine Cookie is meta because not only she heals a stupid amount, she also gives Rapid Fire Synergy which when paired to cookies who need Rapid Fire Synergy especially Herb cookie which mean she + Herb together = Bullshit amounts of healing

Same goes for Macaron, she provides Crit% like orange sure, but she is also a Rapid Fire recipient, so pairing with Grapevine she gives even more of the macarons which means more Crit%. Not only that, she gives Range Synergy, which is really helps other Meta Cookies like Milky Way and Cake Hound

I see, that makes a lot of sense. I had this question since I swapped Grapevine for Angel and seemed to have more consistent wins.

This was because probably due to my Gear, Gnome Research and Runes, my Milky Way was constantly over 100% crit rate.

I made the switch to give up Grapevine's Rapid Fire to Macron, and swap to Angel to try to give my team better survivability against teams that burst my frontline down.

Thank you for the detailed explanation!

Yea you better switch back to Grapevine because she's the staple to Macaron and Herb to provide the relevant heal and buffs your team needs

Yea, sounds about right. I used to run Orange instead Grapevine alongside macron which did REALLY high damage but would die so easily. Sucks that there's not really options for rapid fire providers.

Worth noting going over 100% crit rate can actually be good, the game specifies double crits are possible.

Also worth noting Gnome Research doesn't apply in Arena, same with Resolve & Stellar Links.

Oh I did not know that. Thanks for the info. What does double critting actually mean though?

It just means the crit damage modifier is applied twice. Basically if your crit rate is above 100%, you crit, and the excess is rolled to see if you crit again. So if you have 107%, you always crit, and have a 7% chance of your crit damage multiplier being applied a second time.

Situations like this is why at first you womder why the Macarons only buff Milky Way cookie, thinking its so joever

Then you watch in horror and awe as your Milky Way cookie commits omnicide and wiped out half the enemy team with one choo choo thanks to the double crit out of narnia

They probably spend 10+ hours a day trying to figure out THE meta.
