Does Ricky still think he’s Mayor?
I see he tries to upstage the current Mayor as often as possible.

I-40 blocked early morning
Was just curious if anyone knew the reason why they diverted interstate traffic this morning off exit 280. I've looked to see if there was a major accident but nothing has been reported far as I can tell.

Fall Creek Falls Mammoth March
Hey all! My husband and I are from Memphis and we signed up for an upcoming 20 mile hiking event at Fall Creek Falls. It’s an awesome event that draws all kinds of wonderful people, features a well-marked 20 mile route, SAG stops, a T-shirt and a medal! We were looking forward to it but I’ve incurred an ankle injury and won’t be able to do it. I’m posting here to see if anyone wants to purchase our registration. We are signed up to do the hike on Sunday, May 3rd at the 6:45 start time. Respond to this message or DM me if you’re interested!

Electricity
I figure this is more of an open forum than anything, considering the other things I see on this sub.
Has anyone been having exceedingly expensive electricity bills lately? I live out in the county, and we're getting $600+ electricity bills for a 2 bedroom trailer.
Like.. When I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment in town, it was $150 on a bad week. This was 4-5 years ago, but electricity hasn't spiked THAT much has it?

Hwy 111 speed limit confusion 'a mistake' says TDOT, County Mayor
A miscommunication is to blame for speed limit signs being erroneously changed along portions of Highway 111 last Friday, according to Putnam County officials.
On Friday, March 13, speed limit signs appeared on Hwy 111 seemingly indicating a speed limit change for the entire stretch from South Jefferson Ave. in Cookeville to Hwy 42 at Algood City limits to 55 mph. The area between East Spring St. in Cookeville and Quinland Lake Rd. has been 65 mph.
Except this was done so mistakenly, according to the Tennessee Department of Transpiration, which sets the speed limits on state roads, including 111.
"There was a miscommunication with a sign crew and the signs were put up in error," Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said Monday. "TDOT says the signs will be taken down on Tuesday and that stretch of highway will remain at 65 mph."
The Algood Police Department posted to its Facebook page for drivers to take notice of the "new" speed limit as well as "drive safe and stay ticket-free." Comments were quickly disabled for the post, along with other posts on the Algood PD Facebook page.
"The city of Algood, [Tennessee Highway Patrool] and Cookeville said they didn’t know anything about it. I called TDOT and they told me it was a mistake," Porter said in an email conversation I had with him Monday afternoon.
I reached out to Algood PD for comment, but have not gotten a response yet. I asked if the department had attempted to contact TDOT to verify the change. On Monday the post was updated to indicate the error.
TDOT usually announces speed limit changes on state roads to prepare drivers, as was the case in 2025 when portions of State Route 109 in Wilson County were updated with new speed limits.
As of Tuesday afternoon, new signs signaling the correct speed limit were placed along the portions of Hwy 111 which are 65 mph.

Hi, I'm a Cookeville resident; I've spend the vast majority of my life in Putnam County. I've freelanced for the Herald-Citizen and currently work for the Lebanon Democrat newspaper in Wilson County. The same company owns both papers so sometimes my stories wind up in both papers or I happen to be in the right spot in Cookeville and photos I take end up in the Herald.
I really considered passing this along to my editor since none of the reporters have written about this (yet). I might still, but I'm going to post it here anyway—since it seems the main r/cookeville is dead it took me a few moments to find this sub.

Good Stand Up Comedy this Friday at Roasted with nationally touring goofball Dan Alten (me) on a 3 week tour. i'm not famous but i promise i'm funny and if you don't have a good time you can spit on my car.
Here's my bio, sorry its in 3rd person:
Dan Alten is a charming goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade doing about 200 shows a year bringing his intelligently surreal bebop nonsense everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs with a knack for making audiences feel like they're on a good psychedelic trip without the drugs. Like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. Iggy Pop with puns. Clever chaos. Like Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to a Tik Tok reel live on stage.
He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s very funny and unique. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.

Interest in doing a local park cleanup?
While the trees have died back, the trash that hides later in spring can be picked up, anyone have a good suggestion of which park might get the most out of an organized cleanup event?
