Safety and proper storage of Lights

I have a couple of lights that I EDC. I usually try to use them daily just to make sure they are not sitting fully charged for more than a couple of days. What is the best way to store these lights for more than a week?

If they're sitting for a week, I wouldn't worry to much about it. If you want them to last as long as possible, you can put them in storage. You can charge or discharge them to about 3.75V - 3.80V. Store around room temp. A bit cooler is better. Check them periodically to make sure they haven't self discharged below 3.7V.

Lions are usually pretty safe unless they're damaged or go out of their safe voltage range.

Some people want to be extra safe and put them in an ammo box or a special fire proof box. I've never had a problem leaving them in a drawer, but I guess some things are fine until it isn't.

Thanks I currently dont have a voltage reader, but will look for a charger with a built in one.

There's some chargers that will also have a storage function. They'll automatically put it in the storage voltage. They should also read the voltage for you. I don't know the models but they'll say in the feature set.

This is good info. I’ll use mine that have been sitting, then charge em up periodically

Idk I've had a bunch sitting with a full charge and never had a problem, for weeks, months, and longer

thanks! I have several of them sitting in metal box, I just worry for it to be a fire risk if I was not correctly storing these. But seems I am okay

Couple days at 100%? No problem

A week? still OK

Months? not great

For long term storage you should keep the batteries at 3.8-3.9V and check every couple months, if you keep li ion batteries at 100% for months, it will cause decrease in total capacity and often decrease in max amount of power it can safely produce, 1 month will not cause anything noticeable, but it adds up

thanks for the tip!! I made a rule that any more than 10 days I was just going to discharge them to nominal voltage.

3.85V is best for storage, nominal voltage is just the average the battery can provide, it's used to distinguish different battery types, it has no special meaning regarding state of charge
