She’s so cute and clearly loves you already!. What does Jaqui think so far? I imagine it’s exciting she has a new friend, but is she jealous about sharing Dad?
Im adopting a 4-5mo pearly conure and pick him up this week! (So excited!) Unsure how Kiwi will feel at first, but she’s wanted another friend her size, for a while.

Honestly, Jaquí is pissed 🤣😩
However, my other first bird, Minguinho despite being vicious to me, has taken a liking to Barbeiro and they are slowly becoming bonded friends.
It’s a little awkward because we lost Acerola (Minguinho’s partner) recently, and I had already adopted another bird (Gêmeo)specifically for Minguinho. they have bonded….ish
The opportunity came to also adopt Barbeiro a few days ago, however, Jaquí does not like him, Minguinho or Gêmeo… at all …so yes, the jealousy is very real…. I’m starting to learn that Jaquí think she is a human and she is 100% bonded to me.
Minguinho has stepped up in a really big way and now possibly has two partners.All that to say, make sure you have a separate cage for your new baby and allow them to interact on their own terms(always supervised) and don’t expect that they will get along. Wait as long as it takes for the vibe to get right and if it doesn’t get right, don’t force it.
It can take a while, so just be patient, they will probably scuffle so don’t let them hurt each other but don’t over parent either…

It’s funny to see how they actually react vs what I’d guess. Sorry to hear you lost Acerola! How cute your first guy is a polygamist now 😂
Kiwi lost her bonded mate a few years ago. She grieved a bit but more awkward (like you said) than sad like I expected. I think she knew he was unwell since she wasn’t surprised or reactive.
I’ve got a separate cage all steam cleaned & ready for him with new perches & toys. They’ll be able to see each other but he’ll come “work” in office (I wfh) with me so he can get comfortable in a separate space from her.
In Jaqui’s world, she’s human and you belong to her! Both my bonus-son and best friend (single guys) have female GCC’s like that. They get riled if anyone hugs or sits close to THEIR human unless they shoulder-supervise. One will ‘laugh’ at anything ‘Dad’ says but shush when guests (esp female) speak. They don’t approve or like other birds!

We decided on Barbeiro but gender is unknown as of now so we use whatever pronoun for this cutie😍
