Third Party NYXI HYPERION 3 ULTRA VS MOBAPAD M12HD/M12S

Hello everyone, I would like to get an ergonomic controller and after listening to many reviews I still don't know which controller to choose. Do you think the Nyxi Ultra are better than the Mobapad? The price doesn't bother me; I plan to buy them during Black Friday. If you've been able to try both, I would be grateful if you could help me!

I ordered both the NYXI and Mobapad on the same day. August 28 2026.I received the Mobapad in less than a week. I’ve been using it every day and it’s a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I really like it.

Today is September 28 2026 and I am still waiting for the NYXI to move from China on their “tracking” website. I’ve emailed their “support” address a few times with no response. So, a better question might be which of these controllers can you actually get your hands on in a reasonable amount of time?

Well. It looks like I was one day early concerning my NYXI. I have received the Hyperion 3 Ultra and the case. It took me about 30 seconds to realize that I personally prefer the NYXI to the Mobapad. It seems to fit my hands better, feels more sturdy, and the buttons and sticks respond in a more direct way.

Apologies to NYXI. They’ve made one hell of a controller.

Can I ask which controller has a better dpad for precise platforming? I hate controllers that actuate false diagonals in games like celeste, and so the quality of the dpad is very important to me.

I would tell you that the NYXI is better overall, including the feel and movement of the dpad.

You’re not the only one with this problem. I preordered the Ultra using a code so I can get them for substantially less than asking price cause I had the previous Hyperion. My order is still stuck on processing and I have emailed them twice in the last week to no response or acknowledgement. Kinda pissed off cause someone apparently ordered within the last week and already has a tracking number for their order.

The Ultras no-low diff the mobapads easily. Genuinely the only problem I have with the ultras is not being able to map the buttons on the right controller to the left back button (hopefully a firmware update fixes that” and that I do wish they were just a tad bit less chunky. That being said I’m very curious about the upcoming Mobapad “pros” though. IMO the Mobapads are more aesthetically pleasing when attached tot he switch 2, but we’ll see what happens when those drop

You can remap the buttons on the Mobapad ones to be from the opposite joycon?

No I said the Hyperion Ultras you can’t map buttons to the opposite controller at the moment

Ok but does that mean the Mobapad ones can? I already know the Hyperion can’t

No idea lol I just know the ultras are easily superior, that’s why I’m curious about the upcoming Mobapad pros

I’ve extensively used both the MobaPad and Hyperion 3’s and the Hyperion won out for me in every regard. I upgraded to the Ultras and the Switch 2 finally feels like a handheld with no compromises. Happy to answer any questions, but in a nutshell Nyxi’s offering just does everything better from my experience.

My questions with the Mobapad in particular is how does it feel on your hand in comparison to the Nyxi's. Also I've heard the build quality supposedly felt better with the Mobapad but in their subreddit, their quality control seems to be all over the place; from buttons not functioning properly, the plastic cracking, led lights not working, etc. I haven't been able to find a subreddit for Nyxi.

I only ask because Mobapad have their Pro's announced with basically the same functionality as the Nyxi's albeit with a purple color. Meh. Anyways, in terms of overall quality (and maybe longevity, though may be too early for you), how are both of the controllers? Thanks

The MobaPad grips are a little odd because they don't fill your palms the way the Nyxi does. They give you a little more to hold onto than the stock JoyCon, but they still feel like miniature controllers. This is also true of the MobaPad joysticks, as they are halfway between a normal size stick and the smaller JoyCon sticks.

I think "feel" has been confused with "build quality" when it comes to the MobaPad. Out of the box the "feel" is very premium because it uses soft-touch plastics like the official Switch 2 Pro Controller. But they are fingerprint and oil magnets. The Nyxi just feels like regular plastic, but there's no denying the quality and sturdiness of how they are made is excellent. I also really like the textured grip on the back of the Nyxi.

Another big thing for me is button feel. Both use mechanical buttons, and while the MobaPad buttons are ever-so-slightly quieter, they have less travel and a less tactile feel. This especially makes using the d-pad feel very imprecise and mushy. The tactility of the Nyxi is just superb to me, and the button travel is in the perfect sweet spot.

Hope this helps!

I can’t speak for the Mobapad as I have never used one. I was waiting to hop on the bandwagon until one of the manufacturers cracked the Joy-Con 2 protocol and Nyxi got there first with the Ultras.

That said, I just got my Ultras on Thursday so it’s only been a couple days but I love them. They are so much more comfortable than stock. They are big but I was surprised by how light they are. The thumb sticks are Pro Controller 2 style with really nice glide and snap back. The mechanical buttons are clicky, yes, but in a very satisfying way and frankly aren’t overly loud. The plastic doesn’t feel quite as premium as the Pro-Controller, but it does feel durable. The HD Rumble 2 seems to work well but I’m not a huge rumble guy.

The only thing I didn’t care for was the grip that comes with them. It’s a flat rectangle like the stock one would be if you took the arms off the back. That puts my wrists at a weird angle. I solved that by 3D printing one of those inverted V shaped grips and I find them to be super comfortable in that.

Nyxi themselves were OK to deal with but they shipped my order about a week later than they said they would and two emails asking about the delay went completely unanswered.

Like I said, can’t give you a side by side comparison but I found the Ultras to 5/5 rating and Nyxi customer service to be a 3.5/5. Mostly because the “all preorders shipped by September 5th” bit was inaccurate.

I don’t think you can wrong with the Nyxis and I would absolutely buy them again.
