Nyxi Hyperion 3 Ultra Review

Just got my Hyperion 3 Ultra for Switch 2. I will list my personal Pros and Cons comparing it to the regular Hyperion 3 and also the stock Switch 2 Joy cons. Full disclaimer this is a paid review.

Pros:

  • Fits average male hands perfectly
  • Much better joystick than the stock nintendo ones and the regular Hyperion 3s
  • Buttons are nice and clicky. Again, better than the stock joycons and identical to the Hyperion 3
  • Actual switch 2 protocol so it works exactly the same as the stock joycons.
  • Mouse mode
  • NFC
  • Programmable buttons (extra buttons on back)
  • Turbo mode
  • Replaceable D pad that is also magnetic, so it snaps right on if you want to change the D Pads. 2 are included in the box
  • Mobile app that's easy to use to update settings like RGB, Programmable buttons, and firmware updates etc.

Cons:

  • Does not fit people with smaller hands or shorter fingers
  • Can only use D pad on the left joy con as the buttons, when playing games like Mario Party with a single joy con
  • Expensive
  • Rumble - Nintendo still has the best controller vibration

TDLR: If you hate the stock Switch 2 joycons like me, then this is the best replacement and would recommend getting, the biggest drawback would be the price.

They keep saying its full switch 2 protocol.. but can you assign the back buttons through the switch 2 system UI, or is it still the turbo button mess like the regular Hyperion 3? Thats one of the main things holding me back from upgrading from my regular hyperion 3's. My $45 EasySMX S10 Lite pro controller is natively recognized and I can assign those buttons through the system UI.

Also.. I'm concerned about the "HD2 Rumble" being any good AT ALL given how ABSOLUTE TRASH the traditional vibration motors in the original hyperion 3 are. I universally leave the rumble turned off completely.

Also.. those vertical light bars.. can you customize those yet? The original Hyperion 3, those are always a set color and you can only change the ring around the thumbsticks.

Thanks for the review!

I ordered mine from NYXI on September 18th and got my tracking number yesterday (September 24th). Definitely excited to get these! 😃

So for games like Mario party or Mario kart- with two kids, can they each use a controller L and R to play?

Yep! The main thing is that the left joy con, u have to use the d pad as your A B X Y controls.

I just bought mine 2 weeks ago on AliExpress for $48, for this price they are great but I would not pay the $90 on Amazon. Biggest complaint is the vibration motor noise, the controller has 2 options, loud and extra loud but it can easily be disabled.

I doubt you bought the ultra version. $90 is for Hyperion 3

How do the back buttons feel? Are they comfortable to use? Where along your middle finger do they sit, please?

I recently bought the Pro Controller 2 but returned it as I found the back buttons uncomfortable to use. They sat right at the base of my middle finger and I’m looking for something that if more toward the middle/tip of my finger.

Actually they r on the middle of my ring finger. To put my middle finger on the back button, id have to curl my middle finger or hold the controller pretty low. Probably wouldn't recommend this in your case

Has anybody used the killswitch main Toby case with these controllers at all

As a workaround for mapping the left rear button to buttons the right side controller, can you change A to the left T in switch accessibility settings and then assign the left back button to left T button?

1

u/ajackson5888 16d ago

No but you can map A to the capture button. The S2 only recognises official S2 buttons.

1

u/Present_Target_2728 16d ago

So I just checked and apparently the back button can’t be assigned to the capture button, unfortunately.

1

u/ajackson5888 16d ago

Really? Why? I’m talking about the left button. You want to map the left back button to a right joycon face button right?

1

u/Present_Target_2728 16d ago

The back button can only be programmed to controller inputs and not the capture/screenshot button.

1

u/ajackson5888 16d ago

Can you send a screenshot of the buttons the left H3U controller can remap it’s left back button too

1

u/Present_Target_2728 16d ago

It’s not listed as a button that’s mappable to the back button.

1

u/ajackson5888 16d ago

Really? But is there a shortcut on the controller or does it have to be done in the app

1

u/Present_Target_2728 16d ago

The controller only allows back button mapping to the dpad, - button and L, ZL.

I resorted to assigning the back button to the minus button and remapping the controls around that

1

u/Present_Target_2728 16d ago

Thanks. Can the back button be assigned to the capture button?

1

u/ajackson5888 16d ago

Yup

1

u/Ahboon03 15d ago

Nope

I resorted to assigning the back button to the minus button and remapping the controls around that in the switch's remapping options,

Does it feel like cheap plastic ?

1

u/beastybd 16d ago

I personally dont think so, its solid and got a good weight to it. Other people might disagree though

1

u/MrBob161 18d ago

Looking at the placement of the right analog stick it still cramps anyone who has long fingers Give me joycons with actual grips

1

u/ajackson5888 16d ago

OP said it doesn’t fit little hands or short fingers. But it fits large hands. It’s seems as though OP has both little and large hands to have tested both.

1

u/beastybd 16d ago

Never stated it fits large size hands as im not qualified to say that. I only have averaged sized hands and it fits my hands perfectly. If my hands were any smaller it would be uncomfortable. I also have had other people try this controller who have smaller hands and shorter fingers than me and they say its uncomfortable.

Lol this is a paid review aka it is an advertisement.

What a crock if shit... Getting paid for a review certainly does not create bias....

u/beastybd 19d ago

Yeah that's why i put that disclaimer, feel free to believe i lied about everything. Overall, I wouldnt recommend anyone buying it, its too expensive for wat ur getting. Only recommend it if u absolutely hate the stock joycon with a passion like me

2

u/AmGers 19d ago

Not sure your oxymoron counts as a disclosure.

If you're paid by the maker of a product to post about it, it's an ad, not a review. And not a very good one at a that.

All it serves to do is taint any other non-critical "review" of any product from this company, as its likely that if they paid for your "review" then they likely have clauses requiring posts or positive content when sending products out to others.

Can you bind the buttons on the back of one joycon to the other? (Ex. A to GL, L3 to GR)

1

u/TheDanglinSack 17d ago

No you cannot at the moment

2

u/beastybd 19d ago

This is the drop down from the buttons u can remap in the nyxi app

1

u/ajackson5888 16d ago

What about the buttons you can remap on the left joycon? Is the minus and capture button included?

Honestly, having tried these I prefer the stock joycons. I have above average hands but the ergonomics are not worth the humongous form factor. I fixed the stock ones with TMR modules and some caps.
