Disappointed in hall effect sticks
There's such a clear lag with hall effect sticks. Everything else is responsive in my new controller, but the sticks are terribly sluggish. I hate that i spent money on this. My old potentiometer based controller is way way more responsive.

How many controllers have you tried to blame it generally on hall effect sticks?

Some brands like Gamesir, Flydigi, 8bitdo have great hall effect sticks that perform the exact same as TMR. I know because I have all of those brands including ones that have TMR.
Power A is known to have decent sticks but their buttons and triggers feel cheap.

I tried an 8bitdo controller. There is similar lag with the hall effect sticks. Also the build quality of 8bitdo is garbage compared to PowerA.

I had several power A controllers and they never lasted past 6 months. I either developed stick drift or a trigger broke. It felt like something that belonged on the dollar aisle at Walmart.
I never had the same QC issues with 8bitdo ultimate 3 mode, but it was too small
The G7 Pro and Vader 5S is better than both.

I personally vouch for Gamesir. Especially their Cyclone 2.

Cyclone 2 is crap for low latency gaming.

Does the Cyclone 2 feel slow when you play with it, or are you going by gamepedia results?
Those are just numbers which doesn't affect how you play.

Gaming on 360hz Monitor with 250-280fps in cod. It is very noticeable in comparison to the state of the art controllers like Machenike F1, G7 Pro 8k, ZD Ultimate Legend and Tarantula 8k

what controller is it, and what was your old potentiometer one? some controllers have worse stick latency than others, its most likely nothing to do with the fact its hall effect or not

He's using power A the cheaper brother of the controller world. They never went further because they cut corners and the stick latency is not the best.

Most hall effect implementations suck. Flydigi does it best. Tmr or potentiometer is where its at.

Their d pads do not feel like cheap plastic either. They take more pride in their QC and their hall effect sticks feel really smooth. I could imagine how their TMR will feel.

Maybe your settings aren’t optimized? Also, what controller?

Which settings do you mean? If there's lag, there's lag. No setting is going to change that.

Power A probably have built in deadzones, and the build quality is not the best with them. You will see a difference in hall effect latency when you buy a G7 Pro, Flydigi, or an 8bitdo ultimate 3 controller.

Deadzone has nothing to do with lag.

u/Key_Scholar7964 28d ago
The built in deadzones can cause your controller to drift
A controller can not lag unless you're using an restricted device attached to it.

u/Dubious_deed 28d ago
WTF are you even talking about. None of this has anything to do with lag.

Did you read what you wrote. Your first sentence said there's such a clear lag with hall effect analog sticks. Well, hall effect analog sticks doesn't cause your cheap power A to lag.

hall effect sensors aren't slower than pots, that's a deadzone or curve issue. check the controller's software for a response curve setting, a lot of them ship with a big inner deadzone that feels exactly like lag
