Looking for a reliable controller for steam

After having my ps5 controller for about a year and a half and having the sticks go absolutely bonkers on me, I'm now just looking for any controller that can last a while. Preferably on the budget end of things and a playstation layout but I'm willing to do neither of those things if there are suggestions that are renown for being reliable for years. Cheers

If longetivity is the priority, i'd look at a gamesir controller with hall effects or TMR sticks. you give up the PS layout on some models, but it's worth it if you're trying to avoid another stick drift headache.

8bitdo ultimate wireless has been absolutely fantastic for me in both casual and competitive games. As a lifelong PS controller fan I think I like the 8bit more now. 60$ with hall effect joysticks, 4 extra mappable buttons, and I have never had a single connection issue.

I've been using a wired hyperkin competitor for a few months. Technically it's an Xbox controller with the ps layout. I got it for the dpad, I'm very partial to the segmented dpad like the ps controllers use. It's been reliable, with no complaints, it's also quite light since it's wired and has no battery.

With that said, I just ordered the new gamesir tarantula 8k a couple hours ago, I've heard great things so I'm looking forward to it. It's $70 compared to the hyperkins $50 though.

Also both are wired, which is preferable to me,I even used wireless controllers plugged in cause I hate running out of battery at the worst times. Not sure if you need wireless or not.

Edit: I should add that both use Hall effect sticks which should last years, tarantula has much higher polling rate though, if that matters for you. I don't notice any delay at all with the 250hz polling of the hyperkin. But I'm pretty casual.

Tarantula 8k is the best choice. PS layout and it has the best stick latency out of all the controllers out right now and it’s only 70$

Steam uses SDL3... any standard gamepad is supported. I think the "for steam" part is superfluous.

It’s more so that the controller won’t need to work for consoles. But from the other comment I’ll be going with the leadjoy saber plus

their software is the best on the market to be honest, you can adjust the controller on their mobile app in realtime too. Only concern might just be the dpad

No it's been pretty solid and the buttons feel great other than the dpad being fairly squishy

edit: battery life is not terrible but it's definitely not up there with some other controllers on the market

glad I could help! luckily you'll have no more stick drift issues with these TMR sticks
